It’s hard to believe that we’re more than halfway through 2019 and at the BLDC we’re incredibly excited about what 2019 has brought us.  In the spring we were proud to announce the siting of FCR, which has already hired 140 new employees in our community, leading the way for a new venture in Butte.  We have also seen tremendous activity with our entrepreneurs, small business owners, and large employers.

One of the critical components to our organization being able to provide such a high level of work and expertise to the community is our membership drive.  These generous donations are what drive our organization and enable us to do the work that is so important to Butte. Since our last membership drive, we have deployed over $1m in loan funds to small businesses in Butte, attracted $1.2 million in committed grant funds for direct job creation and worked with our many fantastic partners to continue leading Butte’s economy forward.

We can’t do any of this work without the tremendous support of the business community and want to say thank you to every past BLDC member and all of our future members that help keep Butte such an amazing place to live, work and play.  It is because of your support that Butte’s economy continues to thrive, and it is thanks to your contributions that the future of Butte looks brighter than ever and for that, we are incredibly thankful and encourage you to renew your membership and keep investing in Butte.

Thank you,

Joe Willauer

Silver Bow County Census Tract 1 has been designated an Opportunity Zone by the U.S. Treasury.   This designation presents a unique opportunity for development by providing federal tax incentives for the reinvestment of unrealized capital gains.  These incentives are in addition to those currently offered on a state and local level.

Our designated opportunity zone in Butte encompasses our central business district and includes numerous strategic investment opportunities.  These include the future home of a world-class medical training facility, numerous historic buildings and a distinct urban feel that is unique throughout the west.  Along with the investment potential of the Butte opportunity zone additional grant funds are available to incentivize projects in the zone including Brownfields Assessments, Urban Revitalization Agency as well as numerous workforce incentives.

With thousands of people expected to visit Butte this weekend for the Montana Folk Festival, it’s a good chance to showcase positive things about the Mining City.

“So, it’s to take the negatives and to turn them into positives,” said Maria Pochervina, director of the Butte Convention and Visitor Bureau.

The group Butte Elevated was formed to highlight the good parts of Butte and to dispel misconceptions about the city, including its large Superfund site and the Berkeley Pit.

“We have the Berkeley Pit, that’s not drinkable water, but we have some of the cleanest water in the state of Montana with the Basin Creek treatment plant, water treatment facility,” said Pochervina.
