We are incredibly excited the Butte Local Development Corporation is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019!
It’s hard to believe that it is nearly fall and here at the BLDC we are incredibly excited to be launching our 2019 membership drive! In the past year, the BLDC has provided over $2.5 million in loans to local businesses and has assisted in the creation, expansion, and retention of over 332 jobs through our revolving loan fund program. Currently, we have over 140 members who have made the commitment to support our mission of promoting local economic development and elevating Butte as the ideal location to live, work, and play.
As one of our valued business partners in Butte-Silver Bow, the BLDC Board of Directors invites you to become an advocate of innovation in our community by renewing or joining our membership. We have had another exceptionally productive year, which has seen tremendous growth in our community from numerous private businesses, a significant amount of outside investments, and nearly $1 million in grant funds awarded from many of our state and federal partners. While it has already been a great year, we are not slowing down and are excited to be continuing forward in advancing Butte’s overall success.

Butte Local Development Corporation Announces 50th Anniversary Celebration, September 10th, 5:30 p.m. at Montana Television Network (KXLF)
The Butte Local Development Corporation (BLDC) is excited to announce that they will be hosting a 50th-Anniversary Celebration and Membership Celebration on September 10th at 5:30 p.m. at the Montana Television Network (KXLF) building at 1003 Montana Street. Platinum BLDC member, KXLF, will also be co-hosting the event with the BLDC.
The event will include a cocktail hour, appetizers and an opportunity to learn about what the BLDC has accomplished in the last 50 years and where we see the organization, our local economy and our community going in the next 50. We’re incredibly excited about what we’ve accomplished and where we see Butte going and hope that you can join us in celebrating. The event also marks the kickoff for BLDC’s annual membership drive.
The BLDC’s mission is to lead Butte-Silver Bow County in building a stronger, sustainable and more diverse economy. We do this by promoting increased public/private sector collaboration, delivering business development initiatives focused on new investment and job growth, and enhancing the competitiveness of Butte’s business climate. Along with its partners, the BLDC markets Butte-Silver Bow County to reach company executives, site selectors, and real estate consultants. The top public and private sector leaders in Butte-Silver Bow County are involved in the BLDC, including business, government, academia and community leaders.
The Butte Local Development Corporation, working with their members and partners, have helped create or retain over 4,755 jobs in Butte-Silver Bow and have been instrumental in facilitating key expansion and development projects such as Montana Precision Products, REC Silicon, Montana Craft Malt, Praxis Center Medical Training Center, and the FCR Contact Center. The BLDC has been an essential partner in providing resources to our community with programs including the new Opportunity Zone designation, Brownfields Redevelopment Program, and Buxton Solutions Relation Recruitment. As well, the BLDC has aided the community in recruitment tools such as Butte Elevated, Basecamp Butte, and the Fly Butte Campaign.
This year, the Innovate Montana Symposium will bring together accomplished entrepreneurs, investors, influential business leaders, small business owners, and support organizations to ignite innovation and inspire entrepreneurship in Montana communities. The three-day event will focus on spurring creativity through catalytic learning; with engaging discussions, workshops and facilitated events to activate networking amongst attendees. In its fourth year, we are proud to bring The Symposium to Butte, Montana to showcase the startup activity and business climate in the Mining City.
Apply for Shark PITch at the Innovate Montana Symposium!
The Innovate Montana Symposium is holding a Shark Tank-styled event called Shark PITch geared at inspiring startup entrepreneurs to take the stage and share their business with the community. Shark PITch will take place on the evening of October 15th following the formal start to the Symposium in Butte, Montana.
The Governor’s Office of Economic Development needs your help sending this invitation out to any and all in your network who could utilize this opportunity. If you have any companies who could benefit from this experience and prizes, please reach out to them individually to encourage them to apply. The winner will receive a prize package worth at least $10,000 in cash and services they can use to grow their business.
Silver Bow County Census Tract 1 has been designated an Opportunity Zone by the U.S. Treasury. This designation presents a unique opportunity for development by providing federal tax incentives for the reinvestment of unrealized capital gains. These incentives are in addition to those currently offered on a state and local level.
Our designated opportunity zone in Butte encompasses our central business district and includes numerous strategic investment opportunities. These include the future home of a world-class medical training facility, numerous historic buildings and a distinct urban feel that is unique throughout the west. Along with the investment potential of the Butte opportunity zone additional grant funds are available to incentivize projects in the zone including Brownfields Assessments, Urban Revitalization Agency as well as numerous workforce incentives.
