Summary Thought

At first glance, these verses read like simple wisdom proverbs. Believers need wisdom and knowledge, and we learn more by listening than by speaking. Big talkers are rarely good listeners, and angry talkers may not hear a thing. Therefore, we should be deliberate, not rash, in speech. It takes strength to hold the tongue, to wait and deliberate until thoughts grow ripe. This kind of care, with proper emotional self-control, leads to edifying speech.

Daniel Doriani

Scripture Text for Sunday Morning

James 1:19–21

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;  for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.  Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Announcements

Deacon’s meeting… this week, Wednesday evening, August 7th, at 7:30 pm.

Good Samaritan Hosts… The schedule for the next three months is in your mail boxes.

Volunteers needed for the Nursery… We are currently looking for more volunteers to staff the nursery during the church service. You will only serve a few times each year. And, you don’t need to have small children to volunteer! Thanks to the great volunteers we current-ly have! Please contact Barb Buse at 366-7380 or Joyce Olson at 359-9489, if you are willing to help.

Volunteers needed… for both Greeters and Fellowship time servers. Please see the signup sheets on the information table and in the kitchen.

Good Samaritan Birthday Party… Ebenezer will host the monthly Birthday Party at the GSC on August 14th at 3:00 pm. If you have children that were part of the Wednesday evening program and are free that afternoon, we would like to have them come sing some songs and help the residents make a craft item. Lunch will be served at 3:00, followed by the pro-gram. Call Kathy Bunger at 647-5991 if they are able to come, or if you have any questions.

Adult Sunday School Class #1… In the month of August, we will examine what the Bible tells us about death, the Resurrection of the body, Christ’s return, final judgement and eternal punishment. Please feel free to join us.

Please remember… to check the kitchen shelves for any bowls, containers or pans that may belong to you. We have a large collection of them following VBS week.

The August, 2019 edition of Table Talk is now available on the information table in the narthex.

Thanks to each and everyone for the lovely cards, notes, e-mails, and calls for my 90th birthday. May the Lord bless each of you richly for your thoughtfulness. Appreciate each and every one.
