PTO Spotlight

The Direct Donation Drive Needs YOU!

It's Direct Donation month!  Held annually during the month of October, this is a once-a-year direct ask for financial support. Rather than selling popcorn or wrapping paper and sharing the profits with vendors, 100% of your contribution will fund field trips, author visits, enrichment programs, and more. Last year the Drive raised approximately 55% of the PTO budget. No donation is too small; indeed it is the many small donations that have a tremendous impact on the success of this drive.  Our goal this year is to have 300 families participate. The PTO expects to spend approximately $140 per student.

To Donate online: or scan the QR code on the flyer that went home in your child's backpack last week.
To Donate by check: make it out to “Thompson PTO,” add “DDD 2019” on the memo line, and send it in to your child’s teacher or to Ms. Vicki.

For any questions, reach out to Yael Beals or Joselyn Dennis

Join your classmates and their families for Thompson's annual Movie Night! Green Team News

On Friday 9/20, the Green Team marched (by foot and T) all the way to Boston City Hall and the State House, to deliver 123 postcards to the Governor Baker's Office, asking him take action to protect our Earth and climate! Thank you to all who rallied! We will continue holding green team climate rallies before school on the first and third Fridays of the month. Join us on Oct. 4th and 18th, at 8 am and/or after school for a planning meeting. Contact Elizabeth at for more information. Parents and students can sign up here to help with Green Team rallies or with recycling education in the cafeteria.

QR Codes, How Handy!

Have you noticed these little graphics on the Direct Donation Drive flyer and other posters this year? It is a 'QR code'. When you see a QR code on flyers and posters at school, simply scan it with your smartphone camera and you will be led immediately to the signup/email address/webpage being referenced at the time. This saves you the step of keying in the information by hand to your browser. So convenient!
Next time you see a QR graphic on one of our posters:

  1. Open your phone’s camera

  2. Hover over the QR graphic with the camera

  3. Let it focus a bit on the graphic and soon it should reveal* a weblink on your screen

  4. Click on the weblink

  5. Voila!

*if your phone doesn’t readily provide a link, it may require a QR Reader app. There are many free QR apps. Check your app store.
