Principal's Update

Dear Thompson Families,

I'm baaaaccckkk!!!  Thank you all for your support,  messages, and surprises in my office while I was out.  My intestines are no longer angry, and I got the message loud and clear that I need to take better care of myself!  Looking forward to being back with my students and staff this week.

I am so grateful to Dr. Bodie for her support of me and our incredible school community in my absence.  Thank you to Mr. McAneney (Bishop Principal), Ms. Tsatsoulis (Hardy Assistant Principal), and retired Principal and mentor, Dr. Eileen Woods, for being at Thompson to support the staff and students on the days I was unable to be there.

I’ve been keeping a close eye on our PTO Direct Donation Drive and love to see that thermometer grow! Thank you to those who have already donated, and those with intention to as well.  We are also thankful to those family, friends, and businesses who have also contributed - every donation, big or small, helps!

This Friday, October 18th, brings us to Movie Night - a student fave for sure! I will be reminding students of the expectations for being in the building at night all week long, and would like for your help in reinforcing them as well:

1) Students MUST attend with an adult, and the adult stays as well.  This is not a drop-off event.

2) Students and families should ONLY be in designated areas: where the movie is shown, the Cafeteria, and the bathroom.

3) Students are expected to walk in all areas, and use “movie theater” voices.

4) Students are expected to clean up after themselves - plates, popcorn, wrappers, etc. which will help Mr. Brahim get home to his family.

The more involved the students and parents are in these efforts, the more enjoyable the event will be for everyone! Thank you for your support.

And, please DO stop by the Lost & Found Table - it’s too early to have so much stuff...and that’s without the mittens, hats, and boots!

Looking forward to seeing you all at some point in the coming weeks!

Karen

Thompson News & Events

Thompson Movie Night! Friday, Oct. 18, 6 - 8:30 p.m.

Join your classmates and their families for Thompson's annual Movie Night! This year's movie: Lego Movie 2!

Pizza & popcorn available for purchase in the cafeteria  starting at 6 p.m. Showtime is 6:30 p.m. (No pizza in the screening rooms, please!) PJs, sleeping bags, & snuggly attire encouraged! Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

To help this event run smoothly, we need volunteers for set-up, clean-up, running the ticket table for pizza and popcorn, handing out the pizza and popcorn, and chaperoning the viewing areas. To volunteer, sign up at tinyurl.com/thompsonmovienight2019.

To accommodate our large population, the movie will most likely be screened in 3 locations: Library for kindergarten, Multipurpose Room for grade 1, and Gym for grades 2-5. Because Movie Night is always so popular, we expect a large turnout; due to capacity limits in the rooms, please try to arrive on time to get a spot.

Let's keep building... Our Thompson community!

Stop by the pineapple side of Thompson on Friday, October 18th at 1:30pm to say hello, meet a friend, or ask a question! Melissa Crowley, 3rd grade parent, PTO Vice President and Outreach Coordinator will be there!

Director needed for Thompson Drama Project!

The Thompson Drama Project (TDP) is looking to hire an enthusiastic, organized, experienced, and child-loving director for its annual after-school play for students in grades 3-5. For more information, see the job posting here.

In addition to the Community Card sales and Direct Donation Drive, you can support the PTO (and Thompson School) with these year-round passive fundraisers!
Amazon Smile
Designate Thompson School PTO as your favorite Amazon Smile charity of choice, and Smile will automatically donate 0.5% of the purchase price of any qualifying products to the PTO. Thompson has already earned $381 this calendar year! (As of April 2019, we are no longer part of the Amazon Associates program.)
Box Tops for Education
Box Tops can be redeemed year-round! The Box Tops program recently went digital with a receipt-scanning app, but clipped Box Tops will still be accepted for the near future. Scan and clip for double points to Thompson PTO. Learn more about the changes. Get your clips in to Thompson by October 31 in order for them to be included in the fall submission, and make sure they have a valid expiration date.
Maxima Gifts' My School Program
Every time you make a purchase, 5% of the pre-tax sale price goes to your school of choice. To sign up, see the My School webpage for details. Maxima will add an additional 2% of your purchase to your school when you sign up and make your first purchase.
