One of the most heartfelt programs for our community is that of REMEMBRANCE:
•Remembering and honoring our cherished generations before us
•Commemorating the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust
•Honoring survivors of the Holocaust
Sunday, January 27th, 2019 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, an international memorial day commemorating the tragedy of the Holocaust that occurred during the Second World War. It is also the anniversary of the 1945 liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
It is a day when citizens and leaders across the globe are inspired to confront hatred, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity. Today we face an alarming rise in Holocaust denial and antisemitism—even in the very lands where the Holocaust happened—and threats of genocide in other parts of the world.
Let us encourage our youth to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust, act against discrimination and defend democratic values in their communities, at a time when the spread of Neo-Nazism and hate groups fuels the rising antisemitism and other forms of hatred around the world. Aish San Diego is honored to have Mr. Benjamin Midler, a 96 year old survivor who lives in San Diego, graciously agreed to speak to our Community during the Shabbat Service this Saturday, January 26th... WE ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO ATTEND.
*We will also be arranging an event on Yom HaShoah which takes place on May 1-2, 2019.
