A Trip to TMCR FM (Thorne Radio Station)
Recently we received a referral for a young man aged 27 with learning disabilities. We wanted to try something new with a younger support worker named Phoebe who was younger than him. We did have reservations at first but discussed the placement with him and his Mum, saying that we would trial it and monitor it closely.
Obviously on our initial visit when asked about hobbies and pastimes he said he liked music and was interested in being a DJ. As a result, we arranged for Phoebe to take him to TMCR FM (Thorne Radio Station) where another one of our clients with Autism has his own radio show.
We do our best to not just arrange social activities but to do other activities that match our clients' interests and provides a sense of purpose. We also have another client who helps in a charity shop pricing items and putting them on the shop floor, and another who helps on an allotment and selling fresh vegetable jams etc., in the allotment shop. It is important that we enable our clients to take part in normal day to day activities that we all take for granted!
