The importance of making sure your Support Service Provider is fully insured and checked.
With the advent of some support services closing there is an increase in the amount of ex-employees offering support services to those living with Dementia and/or those who are socially isolated.
It is always good to have choice when finding the 'right' people to support loved ones, but it is equally or more important to ensure that adequate procedures and policies are in place to protect the ones we love.
Before you engage someone or a company to offer support, please ask for copies of their public liability insurance, vehicle insurance (if they are taking out on visits etc.,) and an up to date DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check. Vulnerable people advertising for Carers/PA's/Befrienders don't necessarily
realise it is in their best interest to have these in place and may later find themselves at risk if not covered in the event of an accident etc. We have recently seen adverts from people requesting a Carer/PA and suggesting this may suit someone who may be out of work or a student and wants to earn a little bit of extra cash
At Inspire, all our Support Workers have an up to date DBS check and we are fully insured. These points are always discussed with the families for everyone's benefit.
