Honors Seminar: Julie Boland

"Is conversation our superpower?"

Conversation usually seems effortless, but the rapid transitions between speakers entail multi-tasking that challenges our understanding of attention and working memory. In Professor Julie Boland's lab, they've been conducting experiments to better understand this puzzle. Professor Boland will describe some of their recent results during an Honors Seminar talk on Wednesday, October 7, at 2 p.m. Register for the event here.

Emily Sabo Successfully Defends Dissertation


Linguistics graduate candidate Emily Sabo successfully defended her dissertation, “Social factors in the production, perception and processing of contact language varieties: Evidence from bilingual corpora, evaluations of perceived nativeness, and real-time processing (EEG) of Spanish-accented English,” on Friday, September 18. Co-chairs of Emily’s committee are Marlyse Baptista and Jonathan Brennan. Congratulations, Emily!
 

Webinar: Being a Linguist on Social Media

 

Kelly Wright to participate on panel giving webinar on social media

Registration is now open for an October 16th webinar on Being a Linguist on Social Media. Graduate student Kelly Wright is among several panel members giving the webinar, which takes place from 3:00 - 4:15 PM EST on Friday, Oct. 16. Sponsored by the Linguistic Society of America, the LSA webinar will provide a brief introduction to social media, with a particular focus on Linguist Twitter. Attendees will come away with an overview of some of the benefits and pitfalls of social media, as well as pointers for social media etiquette. Register for the webinar.
