As 2020 comes to a much awaited close I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone that PrintNZ has worked with this year. It has been a privilege to work with so many of you throughout the year as we negotiated the highs and lows of the sudden challenges 2020 thrust upon us.

As an industry we have worked as a team and shown just how important we are to keeping the economy moving.  We have had to reshape and resize and many have made sacrifices to help their businesses, their employees and their colleagues, but we have shown how quickly we can adapt and how fiercely determined we are to succeed.

We have learned new ways of doing things - how to meet without meeting, take holidays without going anywhere and attend events from the comfort of our own homes. We wore masks when we weren’t going to a party, had bubbles without opening champagne and kept apart even when we were together. And it kept us all safe.

As most of the industry takes a much welcomed break over the next few weeks, we are fortunate as Kiwis to be able to freely celebrate with our family and friends.  I am sure there will be much reflection on the journey that 2020 has taken us on - it has been a heck of a ride..

Thank you to all those who have supported PrintNZ during the year - especially the Board who have given freely of their time while having to navigate the challenges faced by their own businesses, to the members who ensure we have a strong organisation, to those businesses who have assisted us in so many ways, and to those who sent kind words of thanks - it is all so very much appreciated.

The PrintNZ offices close on Wednesday 23 December and re-open on 11 January 2021.  For any assistance during that time please call Ruth on 027 2489404.

Have a safe and happy holiday, enjoy time with your families, take time to breathe, and we look forward to working with you all again in 2021.

From the team at PrintNZ - Ruth, Pam, Glenda, Susan and Tania.

As 2020 has been a year of much disruption with regards to pay patterns, you will need to ensure you check that your holiday pay calculations are correct. For those that are/have been working reduced hours you will need to ensure the payroll system calculates Average Weekly Earnings over the last 52 weeks and compares this to Ordinary Weekly Pay, and then selects whichever rate is HIGHER and uses this figure for their holiday pay.  I would recommend that you do a manual check on at least a couple of them to make sure you are complying.

This is a complex area and one that you do not want to get wrong as MBIE can (and do) make spot checks on these calculations.

Members can contact us if they have any queries regarding this or want help checking their calculations.
With public holidays falling across the weekend this year, this is a just a small reminder about how they are applied:

Christmas Day:      Friday 25 December - observed on this day
Boxing Day:           Saturday 26 December - observed on this day if it is your usual day of work
Observed on Monday 28 December if Saturday is not your usual day of work

New Year's Day:     Friday 1 January - observed on this day
2nd January:          Saturday 2 January - observed on this day if it is your usual day of work
Observed on Monday 4 January if Saturday is not your usual day of work

Again, please check with us if you have any doubt about how these should be applied in your workplace.

Happy Holidays

Working for the prosperity of the
print, packaging and
visual communications industries.
