In January 2017 the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago presented ALTA with the NGO Award for Good Governance during its 2017 Gala Dinner. ALTA's annual tutor training course kicks off on Tuesday April 25, 2017 in Arima and ends on June 3, 2017 in Belmont at our Head Office. As usual training will run for six weeks in Arima, South and Belmont and our potential tutors who are currently wrapping up their obligatory observation period will be trained by experienced ALTA Tutors. Once successful in the training course they will begin teaching in September. Tutor recruitment reopens in October 2017.

ALTA Online
Things are heating up with ALTA Online! The project calls for a high volume of photographs, graphics and illustrations that fit into specific themes, to make it a dynamic, eye-catching teaching tool. Contributions are invited from Photographers, Graphic Artists and Illustrators willing to share, royalty free, from their stock images and/or create new images. We're also looking for someone experienced with recording and managing audio files to join the team and a diverse array of speaking voices is also required as we look to complete the development phase of ALTA Online. Both tutors and non-tutors who are interested in volunteering in either of these capacities are invited to contact Karelle at

ALTA welcomes the newest addition to our staff - Joanna Ming Hong. Joanna is our ALTA Online Data Officer. She started in February and her strong IT skills have been a huge help to the ALTA Online team and ALTA's POS office in general.
Last December when ALTA’s weekly column featured an article that called for the public’s assistance to sponsor an ALTA student, the young men of Trimont College responded.  The boys of the college together with volunteer parents of the school’s PTA hosted their first “ALTA Tuck Shop”. The sales on that day yielded approximately twelve hundred dollars which to the boys was equivalent to sponsoring two ALTA students. Continue reading.
Earlier this year Courts Trinidad & Tobago donated a brand new Acer laptop to ALTA to assist with our ALTA Online efforts! Our Office Manager Karelle and Admin Assistant, Sally were also in need of new desktops. These were graciously donated by the National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB).

SCIENTISTS ARE now realising that reading can make you healthier and increase your lifespan. The study, led by researchers from Yale University’s School of Public Health, says that “adults who reported reading books for more than three and a half hours a week were 23 percent less likely to die over the next 12 years compared to people who didn’t read.” Continue reading.
