All Ethos Events Temporarily Cancelled
Moving to Online Instruction
Dear Ethos Families,
Rutherford County Schools has cancelled all after-school, indoor activities. While Ethos is not beholden to RCS policies (we often are able to rehearse on school days called for snow, for example, because of our ever-changing weather conditions), RCS personnel have been in direct contact with health officials in making this determination, and so Ethos will follow suit and temporarily cancel all Ethos activities until further notice.
Ethos will instead employ online instruction to our Ethos students. Your teacher will be in touch with each class/ensemble with weekly goals for student achievement; these goals will vary from excerpts of performance materials to practice, technical/theoretical standards such as scale exercises and note identification (for younger students), to online recordings you can practice with at home. Each teacher will prepare and distribute these electronically each week. We will have a portion of www.EthosMusic.net dedicated to the online instructional materials.
We will also include a video from each teacher, explaining the concepts the students should focus on during their in-home practice sessions. For younger students it will include an infrastructure with which students can practice at home, such as recordings of teachers’ playing the excerpts so students can play along. However, its very possible that not every teacher will have the video/materials ready by this week’s class. While Ethos teachers and the Board of Directors have been exploring this option for a little over a week, we just decided to cancel/move to online instruction on March 12, and with many teachers (myself included) currently traveling, we would ask for your patience as we move to this online platform.
We are still planning to have the concert on Saturday, April 25 at 10am. We hope to resume in-person classes/rehearsals in a few weeks. All of this is based on the uncharted territory of the COVID-19 pandemic. This would be a good time to regularly check www.EthosMusic.net and follow Ethos on Facebook (@EthosYouthEnsembles), Twitter (@EthosYouth) and Instagram (@EthosYouth). We will also send notifications through this email distribution list. If you’d like to add email addresses to be included on future correspondence, please let Dr. Russell know at email@example.com.
Ethos will continue and students will continue to learn - it will just look a little different for the next few weeks. Special thanks to the Ethos faculty for navigating this new way of disseminating instruction - they are doing so with a teacher’s heart in servitude to our students. And special thanks to Ethos families for making the most of this situation. We expect you to continue practicing and learning - your music education is that important!
