September 2018

The new IAPS Executive Committee started its work on the 1st of September!
Nine dedicated students from six different countries are now in charge of the daily life of IAPS and they are: Veli-Jussi Haanpää (President), Sofia Ferreira Teixeira (Vice President and PR Manager), Artemis Tsimperi (Secretary), Ivana Rilak (Treasurer), Jyri Eerola (IT Manager), Samuel Borer (Membership and Alumni Manager), Pedro Vianez (Outreach Manager), Margaret Rosenberg (Events Manager) and Duarte Graça (General Member).
Thanks again to the old EC for all their work and good luck to the new EC!
Welcome to Puebla - ICPS 2020 Host
The final decision was made at the Annual General Meeting in Helsinki, Finland! There were three bids from LC Krakow in Poland, Utrecht from NC The Netherlands and Puebla from NC Mexico. The winner bid was from NC Mexico, which means we are all going to Puebla for ICPS 2020!
Congratulations to the host and we are all looking forward to another great ICPS!
London Calling - PLANCKS 2020 Host
Like for ICPS 2020, at the Annual General Meeting that took place during ICPS 2018, the host of PLANCKS 2020 was chosen and it is... London, United Kingdom (NC UK+Ireland)! Congratulations to the host and we cannot wait for this 7th edition!

The new edition of the Jounal of IAPS is now online. You can find it here. Pay also attention to IAPS media because information about the 2019 edition will be coming out soon ;)
An IAPS Subbie is a dedicated IAPS member willing to develop self-skills and improve different parts of IAPS by joining one (or MORE!) of the various EC Subcommittees.
Calls are now open for Finances, IT, Members, PR, Events, Advocacy and Outreach Subbies. Do not miss this unique opportunity!

IAPS School Day Grant Call Open
This year, the 9th of November is the day when you have the opportunity to spread your interest in physics and science through middle and high school students under the theme Particle Physics
In order to help you organise this, IAPS has just opened the call for the IAPS School Day 2018 Grant!
If you want to participate but do not know how you can make it or if you think this is a big endeavour, do not worry, IAPS is here to help! Each member committee of IAPS can apply to the IAPS School Day grant and receive up to 400 € with a total of 1200 € given out by IAPS!
The deadline is 18th of October 2018. More information on eligibility and how to apply can be found on our website
Upcoming Events
The first Scientific Excursion to the Mexican National Astronomical Observatory of IAPS is going to take place from the 10th to the 14th of October!
More than 30 physics students, all IAPS members, are going to meet for 5 days in Ensenada, Mexico, to not only visit the observatory, but to also participate in workshops, visit research institutes and the beautiful city of Ensenada. Find out more about this amazing event here.
Latest events
Throw back to ICPS 2018
One month ago but it already seems far away... ICPS 2018 took place in Helsinki, Finland, from the 8th to the 14th of August. Looking back we see a week full of lectures, excursions and - for sure - meet ups with a lots of either new or well-known faces.
350 physics students from 41 different countries got together and made the future in HEL. Thus, we are already counting the days for the next ICPS in Cologne, Germany 2019!
2018 Nobel Prize in Physics
It is that time of the year! Tomorrow, the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics is going to be announced!

PhD position at Humboldt University
A paid position for a PhD student at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is open! The position is within the theoretical particle physics group (Prof. Grojean, Dr Schulze, Prof. Uwer and Dr. Ramona Groeber) and potential candidates are invited to express their interest.
