Prof Dawn Freshwater

Vice-Chancellor's Voice

Good morning. It was a pleasure to host the Worldwide Universities Network Conference and AGM from 21-25 May. We were joined by our international colleagues to discuss the current issues impacting our sector; the discussions and workshops were very rewarding and I would like to thank everyone involved in making the conference a success.

Last week I was pleased to attend the Business School’s annual awards. The School has a long history of academic excellence and this year more than 100 prizes, awards and scholarships were awarded to the students. Congratulations!

On Friday evening, I attended the Centenary Trust for Women (CTW) celebration. The Trust supports women facing financial difficulties while studying at UWA by providing them with scholarships and grants. To date the supporters and volunteers of CTW have raised $2.2 million – an extraordinary effort!

Finally, thank you to the many staff, students and alumni who have shown support and interest in the UWA Public Policy Institute since its launch last week.

Sincerely,

Prof. Dawn Freshwater
Vice-Chancellor

Forward Focus

Laila Simpson has a natural affinity for numbers and while many young girls told stories through dance or song, she told stories in a different way - through numbers.

Laila, now the Research Impact and Engagement Manager at the Office of Research Enterprise, pursued maths and science subjects which at the time were less popular for most young women.

Around Campus

Did you know….?

More than two million emails are received by UWA staff every day, and some of these will be scam emails.

These contain links and files that can harm your computer and steal personal information. If you ever receive an email that looks suspicious contact Uni IT.

HBF Run for a Reason UWA Half Marathon participants braved the rain on Sunday with over 3,600 runners completing the course which included some of our beautiful campus.

Congratulations to all participants in the three distances - 4k, 12k and half marathon - especially Team UWA members!
