Visioning Workshop

On September 7, the River Crossing Project Team held a Visioning Workshop to help develop the Heritage Interpretive Plan for the River Crossing (West Rossdale) area. This workshop was an opportunity to hear and understand the many different perspectives and stories of River Crossing's past, present and future.

Citizens came together to answer the question:
"What should people understand about the heritage and culture of the area after they visit River Crossing?"

Participants discussed topics, stories and feelings and organized them into categories. These categories were then presented to the entire group for comparison.

The Project Team appreciates the time and effort of the participants. Input from the workshop has been documented and will be considered in the development of the Heritage Interpretive Plan, along with input from engagement with other Edmontonians and Indigenous communities.

For a summary of the workshop discussions please read the "What We Heard" Report, posted on the project website.

Next Steps:
The Project Team is now working to identify themes that have been emerging from initial research, engagement with Indigenous communities, public workshops and survey feedback. These themes will be validated with citizens, Indigenous communities and other stakeholders in the coming months.

Throughout this project we will be sharing some of the many stories about River Crossing's past. Our second story takes a look at a man who lived within Rossdale over 200 years ago.

François
 Lucier Jr
As told by Tom Long, Public Interpretation Coordinator for Fort Edmonton Park
This is the story of a titan of a man who built an unassailable reputation for himself as one of Fort Edmonton's most dangerous and capable men. This man was François Lucier Jr who once lived in Fort Edmonton IV (located within present day Rossdale)...
