|From your ADEPT President
Following hot on the heels of the Industrial Strategy Green Paper, the Government published its long-awaited Housing White Paper this month. For ADEPT members, place-making is at the heart of the housing challenge. Creating the necessary social and physical infrastructure is about more than just numbers, it’s about creating communities that can thrive and prosper. We welcomed the Government’s recognition of the importance of local leadership. We will be responding to this consultation (more on this below).
This month I met with the new Chief Executive and Director of Major Casework at the Planning Inspectorate; and the Chief Executive at CIHT. Both useful meetings, with many areas of mutual interest. I hope that some of you are able to attend one of the National Infrastructure Commission’s national infrastructure assessment workshops (details on the ADEPT website). There’s also a joint workshop between ADEPT, CEDOS and DCLG on ‘The Future of Local Growth’ and alternative funding models on 10 March.
As you know, ADEPT operates a unique system of technical working groups, subject and sub-national boards that work to support members through sharing best practice and technical expertise, facilitating strategic thinking and providing networking opportunities. The chair of the national RoW Group recently resigned, and I understand there is some debate locally around the future of the group. Can I take this opportunity to stress how valuable the ROW group (and other working groups) is to ADEPT, and that I hope that the group continues to flourish.
As always, please get in touch if you have any queries.
