JANUARY 2017
From your ADEPT President

I hope those of you who attended the Annual Dinner last week enjoyed the event. There was a great turnout, and I certainly caught up with a few folk I hadn’t seen for a while. It was good to see our corporate and LEP partners there too. My thanks to Ringway for sponsoring the evening, and also to Scott Wardrop for handing out the awards. There were many fantastic submissions, and it was a tough job deciding the winners. More on those below.

Earlier in the day I chaired the first meeting of the newly formed Leadership Team (see here for the membership). We discussed governance issues; reviewed ADEPT’s finances and future events; heard the latest on the EU Exit work and the digital innovation project; and received updates from Subject and Sub-National Board Chairs. The LT will meet in person every three months; in-between times we will have monthly telecoms. The dates are all on the ADEPT website – if you have an issue you’d like to raise, then please do get in touch with anyone on the LT.

During the afternoon I chaired a LT / corporate partners workshop where we discussed the draft Industrial Strategy (published 23 January). Jacqui Ward, Deputy Director from the DCLG / BEIS Cities & Local Growth team, also attended which was extremely helpful. The notes of that workshop will help to inform the ADEPT response to the consultation.

As always, please do get in touch if you would like to discuss any issue.
