Synod 2021-23 Update | 1 November 2021

We are excited to announce that today marks the opening of the Listening Stage of the Synod in our diocese. We invite you to participate during November.

This update provides all you need to know about how you can participate in this historic opportunity. We hope you will join in this journey.

The Listening Stage has now begun.

Groups and individuals from all across the diocese are invited to gather in groups and make submissions based on discernment and dialogue in the month of November.

Scroll down to find out more about how to participate and make a submission.

The fundamental question that has been posed by the Vatican and the ten themes are available online to help you respond. A suggested process for making your submission can also be accessed below.

The Fundamental Question

The Synod poses the following fundamental question:

A synodal Church, in announcing the Gospel, “journeys together.”

How is this “journeying together” happening today in your particular Church? What steps does the Spirit invite us to take in order to grow in our “journeying together”?

Links worth a look

We hope that as many people as possible know they are invited to participate in this Listening Stage. Below are links to two key tools that aim to help you, your community and your friends and families to be part of this Synod.

These resources aim to help you engage in the Listening Stage:

Participation Booklet

This is the key resource that everyone in the diocese can use to engage in the listening stage of this Synod.

We encourage you to spend time using this resource for reflection.

Online Response Tool

A key way that we are inviting people to engage in this process is to use the national online response tool.

We would love to hear from those who are regularly connected to one of our parishes, schools or faith communities. We would also love to hear from people to may feel less connected.

You might want to share this online link with your friends and family. We want to hear from as many people as possible!
