The Diocese of Palmerston North was founded in 1980. Now in our 40th year, we look back with thanks for the good things the Lord has enabled us to do as a diocesan community, and look ahead to dream of what other possibilities God has prepared.

Tuesday 26th May 2020

Kia ora koutou.

It's an exciting week! This weekend many of us will be able to gather at our parishes for Sunday Mass, just in time to celebrate Pentecost.

This special edition of our update is being sent to let you know about the diocesan celebrations for Pentecost weekend and give you some initial information on what we're doing to help our parish communities re-gather this weekend.

For information about your local Mass times or other parish guidelines, please contact your parish directly. We know that many parishes are working hard to finalise details and will let you know all the information later in the week.

The Upper Zoom

Sunday 31 May at 4:00pm

As part of our celebrations on Pentecost Sunday there will be an inspiring time of prayer hosted online and led by people from across the whole diocese.

We invite you to gather in your homes with your family, friends and parishioners in your homes and join in this opportunity to be united in the Spirit. Maybe you’d even like to share food together before or after the prayer, making a special moment of this celebration.

This will be a unique opportunity to pray together across the entire diocese, so you won’t want to miss out! All welcome.

How can I join The Upper Zoom?
Visit our website at for links. You can join on your computer, tablet or smartphone through Zoom. More information about using Zoom can be found on their website.

Are there other ways to participate?
Yes! If you aren't able to join, you can watch The Upper Zoom on Youtube or download the prayer booklet to pray at home. All the links will be on our webpage later this week at

What will go on during this time of prayer?
The prayer will be a mix of Scriptures and intercessions led by a great variety of people from across the diocese of various ages and cultures.
At a couple of points, participants will be split into small 'breakout rooms' to introduce themselves and share their own reflections, but otherwise are encouraged to pray along in their own homes (while staying muted in the video chat - the delay over the internet can make it difficult for everyone to pray in time!).
A booklet will be up on our website later this week with the full schedule.

You can reply to this email with any questions you have and we'll get back to you.
