April Newsletter

Alas, there has been more snow, but we are soldiering through with lots of fun events and activities between both the barns at Twin Lakes!  Be sure to see what both campuses have to offer riders of all levels!  From the dedicated equestrians looking to take the next step with our Summer Leasing Program to new enthusiasts looking to get in for their first lessons and camp!  We have something for everyone!  See you all in the saddle soon!

Twin Lakes Farm After- School Program
Mondays & Wednesdays 3:30-5:00pm
Join us for this exciting new program at the North Campus!  A flexible drop off program that combines the best of both worlds: time in the barn learning about the horses and time in the saddle progressing as a rider!  Best part?  No more worrying what to do if you can't get your rider to the 3:30 lesson exactly on time!

Riders arrive at TLF when they get out of school and head into to the barn to work on a variety of barn management skills: grooming, leading, tacking, equine nutrition, parts of the horse, types of tack used, etc.  Skills can be put towards earning their barn badge and for becoming a more well rounded equestrian.  After their barn management session riders head to the ring to have their traditional hour group class riding lesson!  Riders are then picked up at 5pm and are ready to head home to tackle homework and projects!

Riders may do one day or both days!  Sign up for the semester or add it in when your schedule allows!  Please contact Carol to sign up today!
Summer Show Leasing
For our more advanced and dedicated equestrians looking to take the next step in their learning Twin Lakes is proud to offer a Summer Leasing program at our South Campus Show Barn!

Riders are  matched with a horse (or pony) that best suits them and their goals.  This horse would be theirs for the entire summer!  All the fun, learning, and reward of horse ownership without the long term commitment.  The opportunity to train and show under our show trainer and work independently with your own horse is a truly unique and rewarding experience!  Home and away USEF show opportunities available to allow riders a chance to gain confidence and excel in the show ring!

To see if this would be a good fit for you or your rider or for more information please contact Kirsten

* Please see below for more information about leasing options at the South Campus year round!

You Are Invited!
Sunday April 15th
Join us at the South Campus for our April USEF show!  This is a fantastic opportunity for riders interested in horse ownership or leasing to see our show facility in action!

Starting in the morning and running through the afternoon it is a great way to spend the day with the kids!  Horse shows are not only a lot of fun to watch, but also a great learning tool for our young riders!

As you all know, sometimes horse shows run on a different schedule than intended.  So if you are planning on coming to join us please be sure to give our office a call to see where the show is at!  We would hate for you to miss it for a rain delay, early day, or canceled due to weather!  Check in with Carol at (914) 961-2192!

Interested in Riding in College or on our IEA Team?!
Friday May 4th & Friday June 1st

This spring we will be hosting two scrimmages that will give riders a taste of "catch ride" style of competition, where riders pick a random horses name out of a hat off they go into the show ring! It is a great chance for both students and parents to experience what it is like to be on the team, to gain more show opportunities and a wonderful learning experience for all involved!

Please contact Lana for more information

IEA TRYOUTS ~ Dates and more information coming soon!  Please e-mail Lana for an information packet and level placement form (Open to riders ABJ and above)
South Campus Show Team & Leasing

In addition to a Summer Lease Program we have leasing options year round at our South Campus!

Whether you are looking for a horse for yourself to help accomplish your own riding desires or a horse/pony for your horse crazy child, we can help you out!

Leasing is a fabulous way for a rider to grow a strong partnership with just one horse that best suits them and their personal goals.   As riders progress there is opportunity for traveling the show circuit, achieving greater challenges at more extensive heights, and fulfilling that childhood dream for riders of all ages.

If you are wondering if this might be a good transition for you or your rider please contact  Kirsten for more information!

Volunteer Opportunity!
Access Equestrian is seeking kind and caring adult volunteers to assist in their programs.  Help is needed in their adaptive riding classes for school aged children and adults with developmental disabilities.  These programs take place here at the Twin Lakes Barns.

Volunteer's duties vary according to the particular program, but include everything from horse care to assisting as sidewalkers and horse handlers in lessons, as well as mentoring adults and children with special needs.  Different opportunities are available on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday afternoons.

For more information, please contact Sandra Wolinski, our TLF Volunteer Coordinator!
Twin Lakes Farm North Campus is home to the TLF Riding Academy.  With over 45 school horses calling North home, we have just the right partner for you to learn on, no matter your riding level!  We are proud to offer a wide variety of activities outside of our private and group lessons.  Including an IEA Team, Fall & Spring Drill Team, Adult Group Classes, Academy School Show Series, Barn Management Classes, Summer Camp, and the ever popular School Break & Summer Lease options. Additionally, we are thrilled to host Access Equestrian’s second location for their ever growing adaptive riding program.
Whether you are looking for a fun new activity for you child, looking to get back into riding yourself, are currently riding, or have just always wanted to learn how to ride… What are you waiting for?

Be sure to check out our South Campus if you are interesting in boarding or long term leasing; and don’t miss our Bronx campus, Riverdale Stables, if you are interested in riding a bit closer to the city!
