Rosh Hashanah Services at CBI

Monday, September 6, 7pm: Rosh Hashanah First Evening Service & Seder
Our Erev Rosh Hashanah celebration this year will once again be a Rosh Hashanah seder interwoven with the evening service over Zoom, featuring symbolic foods and drinks to cue up the inner journey of entering the new year. Many of you told us that last year’s Rosh Hashanah seder was a meaningful way to launch the new year together from our dining tables. We're looking forward to being with you on Zoom for that experience this year. (Please note this service will be online only.)

If you are joining us on Zoom on Rosh Hashanah eve, these are the ideal items to have on hand:
  • candles
  • wine or grape juice
  • a round challah or cracker
  • some apple slices and honey
  • something bitter or spicy (wasabi paste, an onion slice, a spoonful of vinegar)
  • dates or anything sweet (any dried fruit would work well, or in a pinch, even just a little bit of sugar)
And if there are items on this list that you can’t find or don’t have, don’t worry about it: we will make it work with whatever we’ve got!

Tuesday, September 7, 10am: Rosh Hashanah First Day Morning Service
Please join us for our annual Rosh Hashanah I morning service, led by Rabbi Rachel Barenblat. Jane Shiyah will lead the childrens' service outdoors (onsite only) at 10am for families who have RSVPed to the office. Tashlich (casting bread upon the waters) will follow the conclusion of services at Tourists suspension bridge.

Onsite service is reserved for those who received confirmation of their registration — please check in with an usher when you arrive and we'll cross your name off the list. Additionally, we’d like to remind everyone that all who attend a service onsite must be masked, and all who are over 12 must be vaccinated. All are welcome to attend online in the CBI Zoom Room; please see below for login information.

Deep thanks to the National Council of Jewish Women for featuring a poem by Rabbi Rachel (along with thoughtful discussion questions) in their high holiday supplement this year! Anyone seeking meaning during this time of year or Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur inspiration can view the PDF online here.

Add Your Voice to Our Communal Al Chet Prayer

Those of you that attended our Selichot service had an opportunity (as we do each year) to write down on index cards the mis-steps for which you want to atone this year. We'll weave those anonymous responses into the "Al Chet" prayer that we offer on Yom Kippur morning.

If you were unable to join us for Selichot, you can still anonymously contribute to that prayer here via Google Docs. Write down what you want to let go of, and may that writing-down be the first step toward the release your heart and soul most need.
