Our mission is to collaboratively engage, inform and unite our communities in the reduction of substance abuse through prevention efforts.

Our vision is for a substance free Ontario County.

The Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Ontario County is an initiative of the Partnership for Ontario County.

Message from Coalition Coordinator:

Thank you for your continued support of the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Ontario County.  Over the last three months, we have had amazing opportunities to continue to engage the community in prevention efforts around heroin and prescription drugs.

We would like to thank our many supporters and champions for giving us the opportunity to present our information at Open Houses, Health Fairs, Presentations, Trainings, Forums and Cafes.  We estimate that since April 2016, we have educated over 4,000 youth, parents and concerned community members through our various events and activities.

We are excited to share some of our campaign materials with you in this newsletter.  If you have any questions or would like to share an idea with us, please contact me at 585-396-4554 or via email at

Please join us for our next coalition meeting hosted at the Wood Library on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 4pm.  This quarter we will be hosting our meetings on December 21st, January 18th and February 15th.

In closing, check out our new logo at the top of the newsletter.  A huge thank you Harris Designs for helping us create our symbolic vision.

Wishing you an amazing 2017!

Petrea Rae, Coalition Coordinator

Monitor, Secure and Dispose (MSD) Campaign has been launched throughout Ontario County!

Monitor - Count your medication regularly

Secure - Lock up any medication that you do not want others to access

Dispose - drop off any unwanted/unused and expired medication at your local disposal site

Look for our flyers, bookmarks and magnets designed to help raise awareness of why it is important to follow the MSD Campaign.

By following these key steps with your medication you can help prevent addiction, accidental poisoning and environmental pollution!

Listen for our PSAs on local radio stations!  Watch for our ads in print media across the county.  Check out our electronic billboards on Advio screens in some of your favorite venues.

Do you want to share this campaign?  Let us know and we can share any of our printed materials with you!

Would you like a presentation to your business, civic club or classroom?  We are happy to share why this campaign is important and other details of what the Prevention Coalition is working on!

Check out one of our MSD Flyers being distributed throughout Ontario County!
Check out all of the new medication drop boxes located throughout Ontario County!

1) What can you drop off at your local Medication Drop Box?

- Over the Counter Medication

- Prescription Medication

- Pet Medication

You can not drop off liquid medication or needles.

2) Do I need to worry about my identity when I drop off the medication?

- No, all medication is collected by the Ontario County Sheriff Office or State Troopers.  Once collected, it is boxed up and taken to an incinerator for destruction.

3) Will I need to fill out any information or answer any questions related to the medication I am dropping off?

- No, the medication drop boxes are designed to be a no questioned asked service to the community to help prevent addition, accidental poisoning and a safer environmental solution to flushing your medication or throwing it out.

4) Are you still having your mobile collection days?

- Yes, we will be hosting mobile medication take back days in 2017.  Watch the newspaper and future emails for more information on these events.

If you have any questions about the medication drop box program or take back events, please contact us at 585-396-4554.
