Photographer, filmmaker, and newly certified unicorn. Steph is Creative Queen B at Big Bad Bettie Press and co-curator of the first issue of Rabbit Rabbit. It's only natural that she become our new social media voice! Steph has been in on this adventure since the beginning, 1 year ago. Her strong voice and keen eye helped shape our first book and she continues to guide our innovative experiment with her knowledge, creativity, and laughter.
As an artist, Steph's work focuses on the collective identity of African-Americans. She received a BA in film from Howard University, a BFA in photography from the University of Colorado at Denver, and a MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She has been featured as an emerging artist in Exposure magazine and has shown her work in several shows nationally, including the Museum of African Diaspora and the Southeast Museum of Photography. She is an avid collector of random obscure moments, lover of all things salted caramel, and a damn good photographer. Always entertaining, never boring, and clever as ever, follow us as Steph takes over @bigbadbettiepress !!
Özlem Ayse Özgür - was born in Istanbul and lives and works in both Istanbul and Tucson, AZ. She was inspired to create new work for this issue based on her experience of transition. Özlem received her MA in Philosophy from Stanford University and her MFA from San Francisco Art Institute. Her work as a scholar and artist is concerned with cross-cultural understanding and the belief that visual art is a compelling way to deliver ideas and change society for the better.
In addition to being an exciting new emerging artist, Özlem is also a curator. She is currently curating a powerful new show titled X is for Xenophobia and she is accepting submissions! Your work may be perfect for this show. Deadline for entry is Dec 23rd. The show will be held at the Steinfeld Warehouse Art Center in Tucson, AZ in February 2017. This show is being operated and curated by Özlem. We are helping to spread the big bad word. All questions regarding this call should be directed to Özlem. Her contact information along with submission details can be found here.
