Heroin(e) Documentary Coming to Athens County!

Please join us in welcoming Emmy nominated Huntington, West Virginia Fire Chief Jan Rader, star of the acclaimed Netflix documentary Heroin(e) to the OHIO campus and Athens community on January 29th for two free documentary screenings followed by panel discussions. In addition to Chief Rader, the panel will also feature the other primary cast members, Necia Freeman and Judge Patricia Keller.

The screenings will be held:
12 – 2 p.m. in Templeton-Blackburn Memorial Auditorium at Ohio University
6 – 8 p.m. at Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville
 Both events are free and open to the public, tickets are not necessary. 

About the documentary:
This Oscar-nominated film follows three women -- a fire chief, a judge and a street missionary -- battling West Virginia's devastating opioid epidemic.

Service Learning Course Development Training for Staff and Faculty

This training course provides an introduction to service learning theory and practice. Participants will review Ohio University’s policies regarding service-learning and C-Course designation; learn how community-engaged learning can be can be incorporated into a course curriculum; practice designing a syllabus for a service-learning course; meet community partners and review best practices for community engagement locally and globally. Spring Semester 2019: January 23rd-March 20th 12pm-1:30pm in Baker Center, Room 235. All participants will receive a $500 stipend and certificate of participation from the CCCE upon completion of the eight-week training series. Register Here:

TEDxStroudsRun Showcases Regional Storytellers

In September, after many months of planning, the first edition of TEDxStroudsRun was held at Central Venue on September 22, 2018, and featured the following live presenters: Robin Hawk, Sawyer Filson, Michelle Wilson, Keri Imler, Janalee Stock, Chris Chmiel, delfin bautista, Bruce Dalzell, Patty Mitchell and Bryan Darst. Steve Patterson served as MC. In addition to the live presenters, the audience was treated to videos of TED talks by John Legend, Joy Sun and Zachary R. Wood.
