The last days of summer

September 2016

It's been a dry summer across the Atlantic Provinces, but that doesn't mean we're not thinking about stormwater management as the days get shorter! Check out what's happening across the region below.

The Clean Foundation is building the first of three Low Impact Development demonstrate sites starting on Monday, Sept 26th. This demonstration site will involve a vegetated bioswale and a wide variety of hard surface options to compare and contrast in the parking lot. If you're in the area, go check out the progress at the Riverview Park in Moncton!

Check out this great resource from the Construction Industry Research and Information Association, based in the United Kingdom! They have developed a resource manual for Sustainable Urban Drainage (SuDS), referred to a Low Impact Development in North America.

You can find the SuDS Manual here, or more information about the CIRIA here.

PLANifax teamed up with the Sierra Club Canada Foundation, Halifax Diverse, and Halifax Water to make this video explaining why having combined sewer systems is an inefficient way to treat our water. It's a great way to start the conversation about the importance of managing as much stormwater as possible on-site. Check it out below, or find the link here.
