Hello <<First Name>>

This month's Teacher Training Update is going out a little early with the Festive Season here!

This year has been a long year, but I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many teachers gain accreditation and hearing your stories from clubs around Australia. I hope to see you all again next year at workshops, or the Summer Festival of Bridge in Canberra in January.

All teachers are invited to attend a free Teachers' meeting at the Summer Festival of Bridge in Canberra after the game on Saturday January 14. The meeting will be held at the QT Hotel, with drinks and nibbles provided. More details will be provided closer to the day.

So far the following dates are booked for 2017:

Kiama, NSW | Sunday February 5
CPD Day 3 - Introduction to Presenting and Learning Two over One Game Force

Peninsular Bridge Club, NSW | Saturday March 5
TTP Day - How to Teach Bridge
Presented by Cath Whiddon

Geelong Bridge Club, VIC | Sunday May 21

Last month we congratulated our newly accredited teachers. You can read their profiles below or find all of the accredited teacher profiles on the ABF Website.

Jennifer Kozman

Cootamundra Bridge Club

It was her sister who convinced Jennifer Kozman to join her in learning to play bridge back in the 1980s. Her sister gave it up two years later, but Jennifer is still a regular player – and now an ABF Accredited Bridge Teacher.

“I took on the bridge teaching at the Goulburn Bridge Club, because as happened in those days (early 1990s), whoever was a fairly decent player and keen enough, took on the job.

“I enjoy the way someone who does not know what a trump is, can play bid and play a basic game of bridge a couple of months later.

“Also, with those players who have come back into bridge after a long period, you can have an interesting time trying to convert them to modern methods of bidding and play. It can really test your patience and teaching skills!”

“I want to thank the Cootamundra Bridge Club for giving me the opportunity to complete my accreditation. It was only because of people eager to learn bridge and cub members keen to improve their bridge that gave me the confidence to pursue full accreditation. The bridge community here have been so welcoming and enthusiastic to me and my bridge lessons, that it would not have possible without their support.”

John Youngman

Tamborine Mountain Bridge Club

The necessity of attracting new players to his bridge club was the motivation for John Youngman to gain his accreditation as a bridge teacher.

“Tamborine Mountain is a small club located in a growing area,” John said.

“We built our premises one year ago and we now have the opportunity for more players and more sessions. To do this, we need to attract new players and they will require teachers.

“I have always played with experienced players who are willing to share their knowledge and wisdom which adds to your enjoyment of the game. It is rewarding to see new players being stimulated by the game and I enjoy helping them make the transition from students to players.”

John also highlighted the fellowship with kindred spirits and opportunity to stimulate deteriorating grey matter as some of the things he likes most about playing bridge.

“If I can’t manage the physical aspects of life, bridge will always be there,” John said.

When not playing or teaching bridge at the Tamborine Mountain club, John’s life revolves around his family, friends, travel, golf, gardening, tennis, folk and bluegrass music festivals and camping.

Fortunately, John’s wife shares his passion for golf, bridge and gardening meaning they can spend plenty of time together on their common interests.

Have a safe and wonderful Christmas break. The next Teacher Training Update will be back at the end of January.
