Let's Celebrate! IWD 2022 & First Responders

International Women's Day (IWD) celebrates the achievements of women from all walks of life. It's a global celebration begun in 1911 and held each year on March 8th. For IWD 2022, we came together with the first responder organizations of York Region, Ontario, neighbur and many other local community organizations to celebrate all that first responders do to serve and support their communities.

In this SWSCD Winter Roundup, we showcase eight female first responders and learn their professional backstories and how they take care of themselves to be their best when on and off duty. Also, enjoy a few highlight photos from the inaugural York Region Community Open House held to collectively celebrate IWD2022 and first responders. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible and a great success.

York Region Community Open House
Celebrating IWD 2022 & First Responders

So much to be enjoyed and experienced at the inaugural York Region Community Open House held Saturday March 5th to celebrate International Women's Day and York Region's first responders. Hosted by Central York Fire Services at Fire Station 4-1 in Newmarket and organized in collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police, York Regional Police, York Region Paramedic Services, neighbur Newmarket, neighbur Aurora and SeeWhatSheCanDo, more than 460 members of the general public shared their smiling faces and their genuine joy to be back together in person as a community.

Multiple community-oriented organizations hosted tables and provided giveaways and goodies to all who came out and included Girls Inc. of York Region, Newmarket African, Caribbean, Canadian Association, Town of Aurora, Town of Newmarket, MPP Christine Elliott, Bookworms & Co. Independent Bookstore, Global Pet Foods Newmarket, YorkPRIDE, Early Years, Central York Girls Hockey Association and Rose of Sharon - Services for Young Mothers. We congratulate and thank the many whose efforts and support made it all possible and to everyone who chose to share a part of their Saturday with us.
