2020 In Review: The Havoc and the Blessings

"I feel the need to underscore that in the end, we really only do have each other and the shared experience of our time(s) together."  - Anni Bretschneider (fellow hockey sister)

Happy New Year Friend! 2020 was a roller coaster of a year. Amongst the havoc, we experienced many blessings. As we reflect on 2020, we celebrate these blessings and thank you for your support throughout the year.  We invite you to take a moment to watch our year-end video and join us in applauding the passion, resilience, and impact of our joint efforts. Wishing you a safe, healthy, and joyful 2021.

  1. Throughout 2020 we covered many women's recreational activities and high-performance sports events. From curling to ice hockey, field hockey, ringette, dodgeball, basketball, outdoor winter activities, field lacrosse, mountain biking, canoe tripping, sailing and so much more.
  2. Time is precious. This year we got a whole lot more of it. We spent this time helping active women and businesses find each other, share their stories, and navigate to a new normal. We worked with organizations and community networks to help them pivot and rethink sport through local and international workshops, webinars, zoom meetings, social media, and good old fashion telephone conversations.
  3. We wrote and collaborated with guest bloggers to fill your feed with over 80 positive stories to keep you informed, inspired, and connected.
  4. We launched a podcast focused on uncovering stories of hope, resilience, community, and creative thinking from active women and sport-lovers just like you.
  5. We mentored two new junior writers who share our passion for storytelling, women empowerment, and active living.
  6. We partnered with national and local media outlets to expand our reach and put more positive women's stories out into the world.
  7. We connected with national Ministers and policy-makers, municipalities, and local chambers of commerce to elevate equity and inclusion for women in the world of sport.
  8. We sponsored local and provincial women's sports teams and donated virtual real estate on SeeWhatSheCanDo to women-focused charitable organizations, social enterprises, and small businesses to help them serve more women virtually throughout the pandemic.
  9. We took loads of physically distanced outdoor community walks and forest hikes and discovered so many new local gems!

In 2021, we will continue to build community and offer new ways to help you connect virtually and in-person with women who share your interests. We will continue working with you, our partners, and sport-loving businesses to share stories and create resources and events that directly support active women and their well-being.
