The SPOTLIGHT Program
Supporting Senior Healthcare Professionals             F E B R U A R Y   2 0 2 1
We thank all our SPOTLIGHT Program Members who attended our first Zoom Meeting of the Year on Weds. January 13th!  We express our greatest gratitude to our outstanding SPOTLIGHT Presenters and Community Partners from Veterans LYFE Services and from Dispatch Health for sharing their information with us and for their continued to support for our community of Seniors, Veterans and their families!
We sincerely thank our longtime SPOTLIGHT Member and Community Partner, Sgt. Dixie Thompson, US Army Ret.,Treasurer of Veterans LYFE Services, Executive Board Members of Women Veterans of Nevada, for her very informative presentation for our SPOTLIGHT Members! Founded in 2018, Veterans LYFE Services is committed to their mission - to return veterans to living a full life after their transition from military service.  Their Vision is to be an accessible streamline of collaborative veteran resources that provides life enhancement programs, mentors and coaches, while advancing veterans as productive, contributing members of society. VLS will serve ALL veterans from different eras including their family members and veteran widows. To ensure needs are effectively met - they will inquire about SPECIFIC needs before connecting Veterans with one of our community collaborative organizations or agencies.  If there is a myriad of needs or is in-depth such as being in crisis, VLS will ask to meet with in-person to do an evaluation through a Life Management Assessment.  They take a holistic approach in working with Veterans and they continue to check in with the veteran and family member on a regular basis after their assessments. VLS has a collaborative working relationship with the VA, which helps navigate the veteran or veteran widow through the complicated bureaucratic VA system. Their staff is very knowledgeable on how the VA Healthcare system operates, and can provide the information needed.
Veterans LYFE Services can help with:
- VA disability benefits whether you need to start your
disability claim, increase your disability rating or
   upgrade your discharge status.
- Veteran Caregivers for disabled veterans have monthly
empowerment peer group meetings with themed
activities that focuses on self-care, respite.
- PTSD 12 Step for Veterans & First Responders - Private
group peer meetings with those dealing with PTSD and
   Substance and Alcohol abuse.
- Peer to Peer Recovery Coaching is set up for veterans
that have completed their treatment from substance
abuse and addiction. It’s designed to help the veteran
set those personal goals during recovery and to hold
them accountable to help them keep in check with their
recovery;especially if they have not found a sponsor
or are not going to group meetings.
- Alternative PTSD Modalities available is Music therapy
and Yoga therapy. For the youth, Play therapy and Art
   therapy is available.

Making a Difference
in our Community
It's that time again for our SHARE The Warmth Campaign to assist homeless Veterans and their families in Southern Nevada!!!  This is our 8th year supporting Veterans Care Charity with in-kind donations of slightly-used Coats, Jackets, Blankets, Sleeping Bags, new packages of Socks and Underwear and any other clothing donations to support homeless Veterans in our community.  The chilling COLD weather of winter is here... and we encourage everyone to open your hearts and give what you can!  Any companies that want to have a Collection Bin for donations at your office/senior community for your employees to use, can do so!  Veterans Care Charity will drop off a collection bin and they will arrange to pick up your donations at your convenience.

Due to the increase in new COVID-19 cases and a substantial increase in the number of hospitalizations in Southern Nevada, we cannot gather to collect donations as we normally would at our meetings.  We encourage everyone who wants to donate to reach out directly to Bob Martin at (702) 347-7040 or send an email to:  Bob@VeteransCareCharity.org

We highly recommend the following national organizations as the most accurate information sources for COVID-19 information: the Center for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC), the National Institute of Health (NIH), and John Hopkins University School of Medicine. Community preparedness planning for COVID-19  includes older adults and people with disabilities, and the organizations that support them in their communities, to ensure their needs are taken into consideration. Everyone should be vigilant and follow the guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
We also recommend that you monitor the latest updates from the Southern Nevada Health District for all local Southern Nevada guidelines.  Go to this link for more information:
