Among the long rolling south-facing slopes of the Stellenbosch winelands, caressed by cool coastal breezes, lies our boutique winery and vineyard. Here we produce premium, award-winning wines for the enlightened drinker.

Roger Gabb, from Shropshire in the UK originally purchased the picturesque Journey’s End Estate in 1995 and the ship has been merrily steered by his son Rollo since 2007. When not in the vineyard, selling wines, or hurling barrels with his trebuchet, Rollo likes to spend time mucking around with his wife Tash, and children Alfred and Percy.
Our 350-ton crush solar powered cellar provides winemakers Leon Esterhuizen and Mike Dawson with all they need to produce wine of the highest quality. Indeed, they ensure our trophy cabinet is creaking under the strain of countless awards collected on the international circuit. When not making wine you'll find Leon and Mike thinking about wine. They should really get out more, to be honest. Maybe go surfing or play golf – activities in which they've both expressed an interest.

Our team controls operations from South Africa and the UK. If you’d like to get to know our wines a little better Tom is our man on the ground in London. Affable and knowledgeable Tom studied wine at Stellenbosch University and his wine tastings are cultured and jolly affairs. When not hosting tastings he will most likely be participating in some sporting activity but we encourage him not to talk about that - focus on the grapes man! In charge of brand development in Africa is Christine. Born in New Zealand Christine brings energy, passion and a very reliable car – essential for cross-continent trips. Christine is studying for her WSET where her deep knowledge of all things grape will serve her well. She’s also fluent in Mandarin and Japanese – we watch with bated breath, the progress of our Orient express.

Detail and precision sit at the heart of what we do. Take our 'Cape Doctor' with only 12 barrels produced: leaning heavily on Cabernet Sauvignon with some help from Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. You’ll be welcomed by rich fruitcake and spices which lead to a perfectly balanced, silky smooth body.

The 'Destination' Chardonnay epitomizes precision and detail and It is only produced during exceptional vintages. Its rich fruity palate is a harmony of ripe peach, apricot, citrus peel and lemon accompanied by toasted pine nuts and a creamy finish. Suitable for cellaring for up to ten years post-bottling, which will be welcome news to the patient among you. Discover and enjoy the rest of our range.

Like all good wine producers we’ve built a 42-foot tall, 12-ton Trebuchet – a medieval siege weapon. Our beautiful machine sits on our farm raising funds for the local community by flinging cars, barrels and pianos. Click here for more Trebuchet action!

Later this month we plan once again to land a 300 ltr. barrel on our caravan, aptly named Plonk, chucking it a distance of 200m. This will be our 22nd attempt. Never before has a caravan had some many lives!

Our wines are enjoyed across the world and particularly by wine writers, experts and judges. Our Haystack Chardonnay 2014 and Single Vineyard Cabernet 2009 were two of the Spectators favorite summer wines.

Esteemed scribe Damian Barr had lovely things to say about our Destination Chardonnay 2012 in The Sunday Times Magazine, and Master of Wine Tim Atkin’s 2016 report on South African wine picks our Destination Chardonnay 2014 and Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2014 as two of the very best. Last week Destination Chardonnay 2014 scooped up the trophy for the best white wine at the South African IPW Green Wine Awards.
