APH presents:

Dear APH researcher,

This year’s Week of APH Spring Sessions will take place online on April 5, 7 & 8 and is themed ‘A Healthy Mind’, with a Grand Opening on Tuesday April 5, research program sessions on Thursday April 7 and on Friday April 8 we’ll close the week with an inspiring webinar ‘Omdenken’ (flip-thinking).

The Grand Opening will be hosted by APH program leader of Mental Health, Arne Popma (professor of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Amsterdam UMC). APH’s director Martine de Bruijne will kick off with a short introduction of the weeks’ program, followed by 2 keynotes from Christiaan Vinkers (psychiatrist and full professor ‘Stress and Resilience in Psychiatry’ at Amsterdam UMC) and Hanneke Hulst (health- and neuroscientist, philosopher and full professor 'Neuropsychology in Health and Disease' at Leiden University).
“Societal awareness of the importance of mental health as a public health challenge is growing. In this session two top researchers will share their perspectives on how we can tackle some of the most pressing issues. I’m looking forward to moderate the Grand Opening of the APH Spring Sessions and exchange ideas between the speakers and all attendees”
- Arne Popma

Smoking and sports do not fit together (anymore)

APH researcher Heike Garritsen studies the introduction of smoke-free policies at Dutch sports clubs.
Garritsen: "This research with the theme of smoking and the target group children really appeals to me, because this is a topic with a lot of social impact. Implementing smoke-free environments is essential, as it protects children from exposure to the harmful effects of smoking." read more

CALL TO OUR RESEARCHERS!

APH projects focused on refugees and their health

In the project Woman and Health, a collaboration between the department participation and diversity of the Amsterdam UMC, Doctors of the World Netherlands, Centre Sexual Violence, Edu4u and Nisa for Nisa, we have developed and evaluated support groups together with women for women with a refugee background who have experienced sexual and/or gender based violence.

In these support groups women discuss important themes with each other, such as life in the Netherlands, parenting, relationships, health and what violence is. In addition, women are introduced to various agencies, such as the 'Blijfgroep', the CSG and ARQ45.

We are very curious whether there are more researchers working on this theme? Perhaps we can do something for each other. Contact us! --> Zahra Khazai & Petra Verdonk.

We will inform you about APH and its assets and explain how you can contribute and benefit from your affiliation to APH. It is an entertaining and diverse afternoon and a great opportunity to meet fellow APH researchers.

Next meeting: June 14, 2022  |  15:00-17:00 (on location)

You can register for one of our onboarding meetings via this registration form.
