Following the AGM in November, the Community Foundation’s new Executive Officer, Ruth Rogan, outlined some of the projects which the Community Foundation will be focusing on in 2017.  These projects arise from the feedback received in the survey of community and members conducted back in May and June, which gave the Community Foundation good food for thought on how it was doing and where changes could be made. The Education Support Fund is a sub-fund within the Community Foundation that was launched in 2013. This year approx $15,000 will be awarded to local students. Presentations for these awards will be taking place at 7.00 pm on Friday 24 Feb at the Baromi Centre in Mirboo North. Molly Brooks was one of our 2015 Student Educational Support Fund applicants, who received $1,000 from the Community Foundation to assist in her first year of Fashion studies at RMIT. After a successful first year, Molly was accepted to undertake an international study tour through RMIT to attend the LIM Fashion and Business School in New York. Without any hesitation Molly accepted and left for America on the 14 June 2016. Here is her story. 
At the end of 2015 Mirboo North Playgroup and Toy Library received a Community Grant of $3,350 from the Community Foundation for a project to replace the rubber tough surface on its outdoor play area.  This grant was the first step in a much larger project to recognise and celebrate the home of Mirboo North Playgroup, the former Mirboo North Railway Station, which was 100 years old in 2016. Read more.
November's AGM was Derrick Ehmke’s final duty as the Executive Officer of the Community Foundation. A number of people spoke about the remarkable contribution Derrick has made in our community through his dedication and hard work. Ed Hanley (pictured here with Derrick) said a few words of thanks on behalf of the Dumbalk and District Progress Association.  He noted that the assistance which Derrick had provided to the DDPA over many years around the writing of grants and developing projects had been very much appreciated and had helped build strong relationships with the local community. The peak body for Australian Community Foundations, Australian Community Philanthropy, has awarded Rob Kiddell (Director, MNDCF) as its inaugural Local Philanthropist of the Year award. This national award is a great honour, and well deserved, by Rob, his family and the local community of Mirboo North. Read the full story.

The Women Moving Millions network is expanding to Australia as it seeks donors willing to commit a minimum of $1 million to causes that support women and girls around the world. Founder Jacki Zehner says it fills a vital need in the world. Read the full story. To watch the video CLICK HERE.
