I have a wonderful wee story to share with you that involves 3 generations of fabulous fathers.
Here goes, you might have to "bear with" on this story! I will try and condense it as best as possible.
It all started with my Grandpa. He was a religious man (a Methodist) and a teetotaller. But he loved pudding. For every night that he was married to my Granny, she made him pudding to have after his dinner.
They came to dinner at our house and my mum had made a lovely pudding (Brandy Pudding). But prior to their arrival, we had to have a family conflab as to what we were going to call the pudding, clearly there was to be no mention of alcohol! My wonderful dad came up with it's new name, "Olde Cape Dutch Pudding!"
This pudding became my Grandpa's favourite and he always had two helpings of it. My Granny was in on the secret, but she didn't mind as she didn't have to cook!
So, when asking my husband what he wanted for his Father's Day treat, apart from Cheese Scones for morning tea (always a given), his favourite pudding is also "Olde Cape Dutch Pudding" AKA "Brandy Pudding!"
Here is my mums recipe for Brandy Pudding, from the hand written recipe book she made for me in 1991 with all our family recipes in it. I always double the recipe and put in an extra slosh of brandy too.
I am available to bake for you for Father's Day. Here are some ideas for you to consider. Click on the photo to go through to my website for the details.
The Potato and Chorizo Frittata -
This is a substantial and hearty frittata. The potato is sliced and then layered with chopped onion, chorizo, parsley and cheese. The egg mixture is then poured over the layered frittata and baked. It has a crusty cheese top.
Beef Sausage Rolls -
I use a combination of free range beef sausage meat and premium beef mince. I am extremely fussy with the quality of sausage meat used and I'm delighted to source this from a local business, Highbury Butchers.
Cheese and Bacon Muffins -
These are so tasty, with extra cheese on top that gives them a crunch. They are great split and filled with butter or other savoury fillings. Ideal served warm.
And for something a little sweet......
Banana Cake with Chocolate Icicng
My Husbands all time favourite Cake! A kiwi classic and loved my every generation.
Peanut Brownies -
Roasted peanuts in a chocolate biscuit batter. These are a family favourite!
I hope there is something here that the special father in your life would enjoy.
Cheers for now Angie Cunniffe
