Technology update:
Fiber Optic Internet Technology
At Cassville R-IV, our priority is to develop college and career ready students. One component that must be in place in order to help our students succeed outside of the walls of Cassville schools is the most up-to-date technology.
Our district recently transitioned to fiber optic internet technology through a partnership with goBEC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Barry Electric Cooperative.
Why did our Board of Education agree this was the best option for our district?
- Number of devices: Last spring, we completed our 1:1 initiative--all intermediate, middle and high school students have their own computer or tablet. Our priority is to ensure our internet connection can accommodate for approximately 2,000 devices (including staff) accessing the internet during the same time.
- Room for growth: Due to the number of devices, we need a fast and reliable pipeline. Because of the 1:1 initiative, we are using more bandwith than ever before. The fiber optic connection allows for 500 MBps. A district our size should have at least 200 MBps, thus there is room for growth for our district. Ten years ago, we were using 10 MBps while just three years ago we were using 100 MBps.
- Local vendor: Not only is goBEC a local provider, their services allow us to be cost efficient, provides increased capacity, as well as local repairs and assistance when needed.
The transition to fiber optics is yet another way we strive to provide the best opportunities for our students and the most up-to-date tools for our staff.

CHS Alumni Fact: Mr. Weldon Shore was supposed to graduate with the class of 1941. At that time, the class of '41 had 67 graduates and was the second largest class to graduate from CHS. Shore, however, did not graduate until 1946. He was called to serve in World War II in '41, left Cassville to serve, and graduated with the class of 1946.
