Puzzle-y Updates for Fall 2016!

Hey everyone! This newsletter is the companion to the new Auburn Puzzle Party website at app.clontz.org, which can be edited by anyone in our community. (Visit app.clontz.org/contribute/ to learn how you can help.)

We have a few updates to share on puzzle events in Auburn, as well as a few events upstate in Huntsville!

Auburn Puzzle Party 11: Potluck VI

APP11 was a success! With apologies to the players, the organizer has finally updated the event website: app.clontz.org/parties/app11/

Our winners were Cathlena Martin and Stephen Bennett (pictured in the header) for the Design Trophy, and Tracy Cobbs and Mark Brady (pictured below) for the Solver and Potluck Trophies!

Potlucks are a great way to get puzzle designing experience! If you're interested in organizing another APP potluck, you may contact the Potuck VI organizer at <steven.clontz@gmail.com> to learn more!

Puzzled Pint HSV

Last June, the first Alabama chapter of Puzzled Pint launched in Huntsville. Puzzled Pint is a free, casual, social puzzle solving event which happens at bars/pubs on the second Tuesday of every month in multiple cities around the world.

The Friday before each event, Puzzled Pint HQ posts a location puzzle to their web site. The solution to that puzzle will reveal a local pub/bar/restaurant in Huntsville. Currently the Huntsville chapter is led by Auburn Puzzle Party-goers Tracy Cobbs and Phillip Clontz, with assistance from Mark Brady. To learn more about Puzzled Pint HSV, visit their Twitter or Facebook pages.

Puzzled Pint is a very easy way to get started organizing puzzled events, as most of the work is done for you by Puzzled Pint HQ If you'd like to encourage more puzzle events across the state (any takers, Auburn residents?) or just want to learn more, email Tracy Cobbs at <bobcatscry@gmail.com> or reach out via Puzzled Pint HSV's social media platforms.

Escape Zones: The Puzzlemaster's Workshop

Escape Zones in Auburn has partnered with EPP designer Eric Harshbarger and APP4/APP5 designer Steven Clontz to create a new kind of 60 minute puzzle experience. The Puzzlemaster's Workshop is a "champions' room" where players are given an hour to solve as many puzzles as possible. Solving puzzles earns you points, not to mention the code to one of the eight locks sealing a myserious chest. What's inside? You'll have to play to find out!

Tickets will be available on the Auburn Escape Zones website when the room opens later this month; follow @EscapeZones on Twitter for updates. Bring your friends and see if you can earn the high score and the title of Escape Zones Champions!

Escape Pod Puzzlehunt

Escape Pod in Huntsville has announced a Save-The-Date for an upcoming live adventure game on Saturday, 2016 November 12. Details are still forthcoming, but we have obtained the teaser photo shown below. An Auburn Puzzle Partier seems to be behind the design of this event, so follow Escape Pod on Facebook if you're interested!

Upcoming Events

If you're still reading this, you must really be an enthusiastic member of our community. Thanks! If you want to help out with announcing and organizing events, visit app.clontz.org/contribute. (On that note, does anyone want to sponsor us by buying a proper domain like AuburnPuzzleParty.org?)

Something else to consider: with all the events popping up in Huntsville, does it make sense to officially make this newsletter about Alabama puzzle events, rather than just Auburn? Let us know if you have an opinion.

That's all for now! Let's puzzle together again soon.
