IN THEATERS EVERYWHERE
This weekend belongs to The Lego Batman Movie. There's nothing else. There's no need.
UP TO AND INCLUDING VALENTINE'S DAY
Traditionally, Valentine's Day is not a big day for nerds. We hate how commercial it's gotten. (Yeah, let's go with that.)
But the Nerd Yorker's romantic mood is set Sunday night, as The DL on the Lower East Side hosts Mad Love: Poison Ivy's Cosplay Ball. On the actual day of celebration of courtly love -- known to geeks everywhere as Tuesday -- you can catch a rare screening of Lon Chaney as The Phantom of the Opera. The 1925 silent film will be accompanied by live music and, in a darkened theater, nobody knows whether or not you have a date.
Then it's back to geekdom as usual. Thursday night is the New York e-Sports Meetup at 20 Pine Street in the Financial District, featuring presentations by SuperData Research, TrinityVR and other acquired tastes.
WHAT'S NEW AT BOROUGHCON
If you've been following our social media at all, then you know we just announced Khary Payton -- The Walking Dead's King Ezekiel and Teen Titans' Cyborg -- as a celebrity guest. We have another big announcement this coming week.
Also -- and don't go spreading this around too much (OK, you can tell one friend) -- we have begun pre-sales of our tickets. What we're really doing this early in the game is testing our e-commerce capability more than trying to bring in a ton of revenue. Still, if you've already cleared Memorial Day weekend for BoroughCon, you can be among the first to buy a pass.
