AT THEATERS EVERYWHERE
It's Friday the 13th which means the latest Friday the 13th reboot ... has been kicked back to October 13. Instead, we got a couple other horror entries debuting this weekend. Neither are all that great according to the advance screeners but, for the record, they're Bye Bye Man and Monster Trucks. The latter is at least good fun, we hear.
ON SELECT SCREENS
Most of our friends through New York geekdom are going up to Boston this weekend for Arisia. According to many, this fan-run convention is just a drunken, party drug-fueled, pansexual orgy.
It runs through Monday.
Those staying in the New York gravity well, though, are hopping the train out to Lake Ronkonkoma on Long Island for the Macabre Faire Film Festival. We've gone in previous years and always had a tremendous time. There is a lot of solid semi-pro and bubbling-under talent in New York's underground horror cinema community. Consider coming out to meet them and enjoy screening their juried entries.
Rounding out the week is a special screening of Sailor Moon R, the anime franchise's first feature-length opus. (Despite the title, it's rated PG. Yes, it's confusing. We know.) It starts 7 p.m. Thursday at Village East Cinema downtown.
WHAT'S NEW AT BOROUGHCON
We've just upgraded our web site's infrastructure, so now it'll be able to handle the e-commerce (i.e., ticket sales) and aesthetic improvements that will be manifesting over the next couple weeks.
Now that our cosplay roster is complete, we've also gone ahead and booked a slate of top-shelf voice talent and we'll be making those announcements over the next couple weeks. Meantime we're in final discussions with some big names in comics and manga.
