The FCOLC is so thankful to have received a $25,000 matching gift donation through the George F. Baker Trust.  Every dollar you contribute will make a difference in keeping our ocean healthy. Make a donation today.

This year we accomplished quite a bit—here’s a recap of our work:

Sea Turtle & Women Empowerment Program

Our Program in Nicaragua allowed us to save and release over 21,000 hatchlings while improving the lives of the women in the local villages who operate and manage our program. Despite the pandemic, our team was able to save 360 sea turtle nests during the 2020-2021 season, and we are pleased to report we have already matched last season’s numbers with several months still to go!
Educational Programming

In October, we launched our innovative Ocean Discovery Curriculum Packs for grades K to 8. The lessons were developed for use with the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) and our goal is to develop curriculum at the high school level next year.
Conservation & Research in Curacao

In September, Fabien returned from a successful trip to Curacao where he met with government officials and the local community leaders to plan for our educational programming focused on coral research using 3D printing technology.  Fabien and team also mapped the marine protected area where Proteus™, Fabien’s vision for the international space station of the Ocean, will be built and serve as the largest underwater habitat and research lab of its kind.
Marine & Beach Clean-ups

We cleaned beaches where we removed 1,026 pounds of trash and nearly 16,000 pieces of plastic, and over 664 pounds of marine debris from the sea floor.
New Parternships

Just launched on December 4th
: our Key Largo Florida Partnership Program supporting marine habitat restoration and monitoring for students and community members. Together, the FCOLC, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, the Friends of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, and local schools can learn how to care for the environment by using the park as a living laboratory to monitor marine species.
We are excited about the impact our Programs will bring this coming year, but we cannot do it without your help.   Please consider making a year-end gift to support our mission and double your donation with our matching gift of $25,000 HERE  And if you have already donated, we thank you for your gift!
