The book, Digital Language Learning and Teaching: Research, Theory, and Practice, is expected to be published before the TESOL Convention in Seattle next year in March. Building an Inclusive Sustainable Research Community
Earlier this year in July, we announced that TIRF is partnering with the TESOL International Association to co-host a research symposium entitled “Building an Inclusive Sustainable Research Community in TESOL.” We are pleased to report that there is new symposium-related information available on the event’s landing page, including the names of the panelists and moderators of the various plenary sessions being offered.
The TESOL-TIRF Research Symposium will take place on June 2-3, 2017 in Monterey, CA at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. Registration is expected to open in mid-December. Please click here to visit the event’s landing page.

TIRF-Laureate Webinar Link Now Available
In last month’s newsletter, we announced that we would be offering a webinar to Laureate International Universities’ Community of Practice (CoP). The session, which was led by Mr. Ryan Damerow, Chief Operating Officer of TIRF, and Dr. Kathi Bailey, President of TIRF, highlighted TIRF’s resources and its programmatic activities.
We are grateful to have had this opportunity to work with new colleagues, and to share information about TIRF with the public. We especially want to thank Mr. Gordon Lewis, Mr. Rob Cummins, and Ms. Joseline Castanos for their support in offering the webinar, as well as all those who attended the session.

CaMLA's Spaan Research Grants
Cambridge Michigan Language Assessments (CaMLA) is accepting applications for 2017 Spaan Research Grants. The grants provide financial support for those wishing to carry out research projects related to second or foreign language assessment. Project reports are published as CaMLA Working Papers.
CaMLA is offering research funding for up to three projects investigating an aspect of CaMLA’s tests. Each project will receive up to $3,000. Proposals are invited from graduate students, faculty, and other language assessment professionals. The deadline for applications is November 21, 2016. Click here for more information.

Joint Web Conference from IATEFL & TESOL
IATEFL and TESOL International Association will offer a free online conference on November 16-17, 2016. The three-day event will focus on three major themes: World Englishes, Teacher Identity, and Professional Development Through Teacher Associations.

Chair's Report - The Search for Treats is Tricky
At the end of October, people in several countries will celebrate Hallowe’en, or All Hallows, as it is called in some places. Children (and some adults) dress up in costumes for “trick-or-treating” – going door-to-door, asking for candy. It has been many years since I wore a Hallowe’en costume, though I will admit to enjoying dressing up some years ago, sometimes as a mysterious fortune-teller and at other times as a very scary wicked witch.
