British Council-Sponsored Conference Scheduled for Dakar in November
The 12th Language and Development Conference will explore the role of language in supporting, not hindering, sustainable development initiatives through inclusive education, economic growth and societies that are also more just and peaceful. The event will be held in Dakar, Senegal November 27-29, 2017.
The conference will bring together policy makers, development professionals, the NGO sector, the private sector, artists, and creative industry representatives, researchers, and all those with a perspective on and experience in the role of language in society.

TIRFers' Activities at 2017 AAAL Conference
The TIRF community was well represented at the recent annual conference of the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL). The conference was held in Portland, Oregon from March 18 to 21, 2017.
TIRF Trustees Jodi Crandall and MaryAnn Christison organized a colloquium entitled “An Overview of Issues on Research in English Teacher Education and Professional Development.”

Chair's Report – Honored and Humbled
Last week at the TESOL Convention in Seattle, Washington, I was both honored and humbled to represent TIRF when the Foundation received the TESOL Presidents’ Award. This award is given each year to an individual or an organization chosen by the three TESOL Presidents (outgoing, current, and incoming). The award is meant to recognize people or groups who have demonstrated a commitment to English-language instruction, helped TESOL further its mission, and supported education in general.
