Cambridge and Laureate Establish OLLReN

     Laureate International Universities and Cambridge University Press (CUP) have set up the Online Language Learning Research Network (OLLReN) to support the sharing and development of research into how language is taught and learned online. Both organisations have been involved in cutting-edge online and blended English language courses, and have felt the need for more research into what makes online language learning effective. Announcing TESOL-TIRF Research Symposium! 

     TESOL International Association and The International Research Foundation for English Language Education (TIRF) present their first research symposium – “Building an Inclusive, Sustainable Research Community in TESOL.” Experienced and novice researchers, as well as ELT practitioners and administrators, are encouraged to attend the event, which will be held June 2-3, 2017.

TIRF at LTRC 2016

     The Language Testing Research Colloquium (LTRC), which is the annual meeting of the International Language Testing Association (ILTA), was held in Palermo, Sicily (Italy), June 20–24, 2016. LTRC is an important event for TIRF, particularly because each year, thanks to a generous donation from Cambridge English Language Assessment, we recognize TIRF Doctoral Dissertation Grant (DDG) Awardees in language assessment at the LTRC Annual Awards Banquet on the final evening of the conference. TIRF's 2017 Alatis Prize - Nomination Deadline Quicky Approaching

     Just last year, the Foundation established the James E. Alatis Prize for Research in Language Policy and Planning in Educational Contexts. We are once again offering the prize this year, which bestows a gift of $500 to the recipient. The deadline for nominations is September 1, 2016. Chair's Report - The Dog Days of Summer  

     Like many readers of this newsletter, I spend a fair amount of time writing. On a regular basis I write letters of recommendation, articles, forewords and prefaces, book chapters, research reports, reviews of manuscripts, and countless emails. It is interesting that the most difficult writing I do on a regular basis is the Chair’s Report for the monthly issues of TIRF Today. [continue reading]
