Being treated equally is fundamental for everyone to feel worthy and contribute to society. Even though we are all ageing, we are not all receiving the same protection of our rights. This October, our #AgeingEqual campaign called for change.

Mental health: older adults also deserve support!

Suicide decreases overall across the European Union, but the situation remains critical for older persons. The International Day of Mental Health on 10 October is timely for AGE to urge the European Commission to put mental health back on its agenda and to ensure older persons are not left behind.
Designation of an EU Vice-President Commissioner for Democracy and Demography - We have been heard!
For the first time ever, a Vice-President in charge of demography issues has been designated by the European Commission President-elect. The nomination of Dubravka Šuica, from Croatia, echoes AGE’s call for a dedicated Commissioner as part of a more comprehensive EU Strategy.

Our application as Non-State Actor in official relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe has been formally accepted together with six other organisations during the WHO Regional Committee for Europe which took place from 16 to 19 September in Copenhagen.

Population ageing is a chance if addressed properly, says EESC
Demographic ageing is an opportunity, if suitable policies are adopted to prepare societies for this change. This is the conclusion of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in its opinion on ‘the changing world of work and the longevity/ageing population: preconditions for ageing workers to stay active in the labour market’, requested by the Finnish EU Council Presidency.

Since 1972 Gerda has been working as a hairdresser in Liège, Belgium. At 83 she still enjoys working and is well-known and much appreciated in her neighbourhood.
