CEO Corner

It's been a fun month engaging with the community, so I thought I would share a glimpse of what VEP has participated in during that time.  The Estes Park Mountain Festival was a blast, especially having the opportunity to meet all of the school children and hand out CO Blue Spruce trees.  Estes was well represented once again at the State Capitol for the Tourism Rally, thank you Trustee Walker for joining us!  It was an honor to present to the Estes Park Wedding Association, a very organized and cohesive group that continues to help grow our destination year-round.  We partnered with Boulder Theater and National Parks Media where we exhibited and handed out over 700 Visitor Guides and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory candy bars, --lots of love for Estes was shared by guests that evening.  Despite the weather, we popped up the VEP Booth at Bond Park for the Duck Race and helped sell tickets and answer questions.  Our staff participated in Explore our Store, Library Centennial Celebration, EALA Annual Dinner and Nonprofit Excellence in Northern CO Conference.  And finally, it was a pleasure to participate in Peter Kageyama's for "The Love of Cities" presentation.  If you missed Peter's inspirational chat and would like more info., feel free to contact me.  We are looking for community co-creators!

Thank you,
Elizabeth Fogarty
RSVP for the next Travel Buzz - June 15, 2016, 9:30 - 11 am at VEP Office, 1200 Graves Ave. This Travel Buzz's topic is: Engaging Consumers is the Road to Destination Marketing Success.
March Lodging Taxes
Receipts for the month of March 2016 were down -17.47% compared to March 2015. However, there are more than 25 missing payments in March 2016 that will eventually show up in subsequent months. The payments were not received by the State because of a new mail contractor that got overwhelmed by tax season mailings. Adjusting for these missing payments, March 2016 receipts are up 0.05% compared to March 2015. YTD, lodging tax receipts are up 9.49% above 2015.
International Information Needed
Currently offered as a free service, Visit Estes Park is actively selling Estes Park businesses to international tour operators and pitching travel stories to international press. We are prepping for IPW – the largest international travel conference in the US – June 18-22 where we will be meeting with dozens of international press and tour operators. Send your press news to Brooke ASAP and watch for a separate email soon requesting your tour product information.
Emergency Text Alert System Poll
The Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority and the Town of Estes Park/Estes Park Police have established an emergency notification system that would send a text message to guests (who opt-in) only when there is an emergency in the area. They would like your feedback on which communications tactics (if any) you would be interested in supporting through your business/organization. Click here to provide your input via this 2-question poll.
