Bonne Annee!  Felice Anno Nuovo!  Happy New Year!

Music for Minors II (MFMII) wishes everyone a healthy, safe, and prosperous New Year filled with the joy of music!  2020 has been most challenging but we persevere and move forward with hope and conviction that 2021 will be better and that we are stronger for the challenges we have had to overcome.

MFMII would like to thank our wonderful donors and grantors especially the Alameda County Relief Grant Fund and Supervisor Richard Valle, Salesforce and Docent Teresa Talbot for their generosity and support given the dramatic impact COVID19 has had on MFMII. All online donations have been most appreciated as well.

We also thank our dedicated docents who have continued to volunteer their service to children now in virtual classrooms. Docent Training Coordinator/Docent Suzy Young assisted by Docent Kenny Yi were crucial to our first successful virtual docent training this past fall and of course we should always recognize our other wonderful part-time staff:  Program Manager Veera Kazak, Administrative Assistant Sharon Filippi, Recruitment Coordinator Serena Huang, Docent Manager Cissy Chen, Event Coordinator Priya Pawar, and Social Media Coordinator Poorva Singh. What a team!

New Docents are serving their classrooms after a different but successful virtual Training graduation.

Our amazing Kids Choir directed by Lydia Concepcion created an outstanding virtual mini-concert featuring favorites from the “Sound of Music” and the holidays.

MFMII has joined the newly established Tri-City Non-Profit Coalition to coordinate our events and missions. This is very exciting and we have already seen the benefits to our program and other members.

MFMII continues with its monthly virtual Music and Movement events open to the whole community to keep the beat going in children and family lives and the number of participants is consistently increasing to almost 100 at times. Docents Anise Wang and Mei Jiang also piloted an after school weekly music session which successfully served first graders at Harvey Green School in Fremont. This program will expand in the New Year thanks to their dedication.

What a fun time everyone had at the MFMII virtual holiday party 2020!

Attendees sang special holiday songs such as Winter Wonderland, Feliz Navidad and 12 days of Christmas and danced the Jingle Bell Rock, the Horah, Merry Hula and The Nutcracker scarf dance. Fun games and activities like Guess your Elf name, costume contest, guess the holiday song by emoji and holiday pictionary made it festive and fun.

We loved all our Docents, special guests and the MFMII Team’s active participation in every activity until the end.

Special thanks to our special guests for making our event sparkle –

Lily Mei ( Mayor of Fremont, California) for being a good sport in musical charades;

Charlotte Diamond (Gold Record children’s recording artist) for sharing 2 songs; and

Lori and RJ (Award winning Singers and Performers of the Bay area) for sharing their upbeat holiday video with us all.

Stay Safe • Stay Healthy • Stay Home • Stay Musical!
