The Dragon Group is a firm that focuses on sustainability consulting, green building and transformative real estate development.  Helping owners, clients and our community is what drives us and gets our team out of the bed each and every day!  This issue is dedicated to sustainability in the built environment from our lens.  It includes project information, current trends and topics and a peek into our world on those rare occasions when we unplug.

The Dragon Group (TDG) provided LEED Construction Support Services for the New Southeast Library Branch located 1463 Pryor Road.   This new library branch is 15,200 sq. ft. and serves city residents south and east of the I-20 and connector intersection.   TDG led the LEED documentation process for the construction credits to ensure LEED Silver certification submission for this state of the art building with reading nooks, a computer lab, and energy efficiency lighting.  Some other LEED features include 37% reduction in water consumption,  30% reduction in energy consumption and diverted more than 250 tons of construction debris from hitting the landfill.  CD Moody Construction served as the  general contractor and our client for the project.

Atlanta Ranks Fifth in Green Building Survey

In early October Randall Dragon of The Dragon Group participated in Green Build 2016, the largest green building conference in the world.  Green building and sustainability experts, professionals, and evangelists from around the world gathered to discuss trends, challenges and best practices for greening the built environment.  Here were 3 trending topics of discussion: 1-Wellness- how buildings impact the health of its occupants, 2-Technology- how technology can be leveraged to improve building performance and occupant health, and 3- Productivity- how green building improves productivity of the people that use them (ex. Office buildings, schools, and factories)

Yvonne Dragon has been accepted into the 2017 Class for Urban Land Institute’s Center for Leadership. Along with other leaders in the city, she will be problem solving around major challenges related to land use in the region.

This week The Dragon Group had the pleasure of attending a lecture featuring Ryan Gravel, one of the founders of the Atlanta Beltline. He shared his insights about Atlanta’s urban renewal, gentrification and affordable housing  challenges in the city.

The Dragon family took a little time to enjoy fall break exploring at Serenbe Farm in Chattahoochee Hills Ga. The mixed use community that started as a family farm is now a destination and model for sustainable development across the globe.  The property contains bed and breakfast, single family and multi family homes, retail shops, horse stables, organic community farm, petting farm and walking trails.
