  • members sewed 306 Christmas placemats which were delivered to a nursing home, Patricia Giles Centre and Meals on Wheels.  A very grateful thank you to all members who contributed to this wonderful total

  • plenty of labeling and binding available to sewing day/evening for those available to assist

  • Block of the Month for January is a scrappy I Spy style quilt.   If you would like a turn at BOM please see me at sewing day/evening as we have several months free

  • I am looking for helpers to collect quilts and supplies from the storage at unit at Stirling and to set up the quilt display at sewing days.  It means arriving at 8:30 am or shortly thereafter.  I am finding that trying to display quilts and set up Community Quilt tables is not working well.

  • members prepared to quilt donated tops can borrow the Sweet Sixteen in one month blocks.  $100 refundable deposit when machine returned in good order.  Brief tuition, instruction sheets and DVD accompany the machine.  You can use the machine to quilt your own quilts as well.

Challenge Quilts – Members’ Choice Award 2017
1st Place: To Bee or not to Bee by Judith Wilton
2nd place: Don't count your chickens by Sue Mobilia

Thank you to everyone who voted for their favourite Challenge quilt at the November sewing meetings.

The votes were fairly spread out, with many quilts receiving one to three votes.  Two quilts stood out from the others, with only one vote between them, and both of the quilters are country members.

The winner is To Be or Not to Be by Judith Wilton. Judith is from Augusta.

The runner up is Don’t Count Your Chickens by Sue Mobilia from Dongara.

Other place winners were
3rd: Tough as Old Boots by Hilary Arber
4th: A Woman is Like a Tea Bag by Lesley Warren
5th: Are You Breathing? Thank a Tree by Linda O’Toole.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Challenge, and especially Judith and Sue.

The quilts will be displayed at various times throughout the year and at QuiltWest.

The challenge theme for 2018 will be:  A Curiosity - any object/thing that you think is weird or interesting, or an unusual idea that sparks your interest, or an impossible shape, Escher design etc.
