WAQA February QNEWS

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT

Hi <<First Name>>,

Each month I will be putting the spotlight on one of our generous sponsors.

Meet Jenny and Andrew, the team behind Kraft Daze Sewing World.

Jenny and Andrew started Kraft Daze Sewing World in May of 2005 and have since built a successful business offering an array of classes, machines, fabrics, and sewing supplies. They are passionate about what they do.

Jenny and Andrew focus on helping their customers build confidence and skill. Much of their energy is focused on providing exceptional customer care. They have knowledgeable staff that go above and beyond and their wonderful staff are always willing to help you. They love it when WAQA members visit their store.  Why not give them a visit?

I love to read quilting blogs. Quilters are very generous in sharing their expertise and passion for all things fabric. There is a great many WAQA members who blog. I follow many of them. Such a lot of energy. So much inspiration. Why not check out a few? Find out how many quilts Rhonda has quilted for Community Quilts at At Random, or the latest tips and tricks from the Guilty Quilter. Find them on the blogroll. Truly are members are talented.

I love Gilmore Girls. I would watch the episodes with my daughter and wish to live in Stars Hollow. I recently came upon a quilter, Amy Friend, who seems to love Gilmore Girls more than me. She has made a quilt based on the characters from Gilmore Girls and of course coffee.

‘Quilting as an Artform’

our public exhibition

Gail Campbell and her team have been hard at work preparing an exhibit to showcase ‘Quilting as an Artform’ to our sponsors, the general public and others in the art and textile world.

  • Portrait
  • Australiana
  • Political/social statements
  • “wow”.
It’s a taster of the diverse range in style, technique and artistic skills of WA quilters. Why not get some friends together and visit the exhibition. All members are welcome.

There are still some places available so if you want to join in and do session 2 and 3 first you are still welcome. If you do join now you will have a full day on 5th March!

There are still places for all other workshops and i welcome your application soon. Click on the link above to see what workshops are available.

I would like to thank Cathy, Sharon and Liz who helped pin 18 quilts for delivery to our Sweet Sixteen stitchers.  Your help was greatly appreciated.

If you can spare time to stitch borders onto quilts or sew on binding please let me know.

The first quilting bee is on Sunday 26 February from 10:00 am onwards at Alexander Park Craft House.  Liz has lots of quilts for willing volunteers to complete – with sewing on borders, choosing and making backings, pressing and pinning ready for quilting.  A sheet to register interest in attending will be at sewing day/night.  Morning tea will be provided as in the past.  Please bring some lunch and any show and tell community quilts you may be making.

I have a stack of quilts needing labels stitched on. These will be at sewing day and night if you are prepared to lend a hand.

CHALLENGE QUILTS with MEG COWEY
"Ruby in the Sky" by Lorrain Canestrini

2017 Challenge  Inspired by a Quotation

Now is the perfect time for planning and starting your Challenge quilt.

This year you have the opportunity to create a quilt with special relevance to your life:  your favourite song, book, poem, movie, proverb, or words of wisdom.  Any of these topics is suitable for your quilt inspiration.

The only rule is size, maximum 50cm x 70cm.  Portrait alignment hangs more easily at Stirling Club, but you can make it however you like – also triangles, circles, anything goes.  You also have complete freedom of style – traditional, contemporary, modern.

The deadline is sewing day/night end of October 2017.

Contact Meg Cowey waqa.challenge@gmail.com or ph 08 93357119 for more information.

Still time to get your application form in for the NO SLEEP RETREAT. 10a.m. to 10 p.m. in Mt Pleasant! Yay say the South of the River people. Fun to be had for all. Click the link above for more information and application forms.
