Achieving Financial Wellbeing
 with Lifeworks

Financial wellbeing (often referred to as financial wellness) is now understood to be as important as physical and mental wellness. It’s about more than having money in the bank. Financial wellbeing means feeling in control of your finances, being able to handle a financial setback, and being on track to achieve your financial and life goals.

With this in mind and the current rise of the cost of living and interest rates in Australia, the WHS Unit has arranged a virtual Achieving Financial Wellbeing seminar with a Financial Coach from LifeWorks.

This seminar explores the five pillars of financial health, to improve your understanding, explore practical skills, and increase your confidence in managing your finances:
  1. Know your purpose
  2. Know your numbers
  3. Set stable money systems
  4. Plan your financial future
  5. Understand your money values

SMAH Dietary Consultations for Staff

During November, SMAH Nutrition & Dietetics students (as a component of their practical placement learning) will be offering UOW staff a free dietary consultation.
This will provide staff with an opportunity to have your diet assessed against the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and receive some dietary advice on how to make your current diet more nutritious.

You will receive an evaluation of what you are currently eating with practical strategies on how to improve the quality of your diet. All students will be under the guidance of an Accredited Practicing Dietitian. Please note that these consults are for general health and not for medical conditions requiring dietary advice.

We are happy to offer dietary consults as a face to face appointment on campus or via Zoom.
There are limited bookings available. Dietary consults will take approximately 45 minutes and have the following available dates left remaining:

  • Wednesday, 23 November, 2022
  • Thursday, 24 November, 2022

Scheduled appointment times: 9 am, 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm. (Please note appointments for the 23rd of November has a 1pm time slot remaining only).

Please RSVP to with your preferred date, time and whether you would like to attend face to face or via Zoom.

 SafetyNet 101 The Series: Workplace Inspections

Workplace safety inspections are a planned systematic approach to identify hazards in the work area.
This is the first step in risk management. Once the hazard has been identified it can be controlled by removing it or using other methods to control the risk to prevent an injury occurring.

Broccolini summer salad with mango salsa

A delicious summer dish that's packed full of flavour. Best of all is that it only takes 15 minutes!
10 Ingredients:
  • 2 x bunches broccolini, halved lengthways
  • 1 x bunch asparagus, woody ends trimmed, halved lengthways
  • 60g  baby rocket
  • 1 x avocado, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 x small red onnion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 x calupso mango, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 x long red chilli, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 x tbsp coriander, finely chopped
  • 2 x tbsp olive oil
  • 1 x tbsp white wine vinegar 
  1. Place the broccolini in a large heatproof bowl and cover with boiling water. Set aside for 2 mins. Add asparagus and set aside for 2 further mins. Refresh under cold water. Drain.
  2. Combine the broccolini, asparagus, rocket , avocado and onion in a large serving bowl or platter. Combine the mango , chilli , coriander , oil and vinegar in a small bowl. Spoon over the salad and season. Serve immediately and enjoy!
