This time we look at some different ways to begin your new year and new decade, and bring you lots of exciting events to get 2020 off to a great start.

Planting Your Apple Tree

A couple of tips if you are thinking in terms of New Year resolutions:
  • Rather than Goals (things to achieve), think Values (directions to take and return to when you notice you’ve gone off course)
  • Express them in the positive: something you will do rather than something to stop.
 ’Live Life more mindfully’ is an example of a values resolution - more empowering than ‘be less stressed or distracted’. A specific goal to support that would be a mindfulness training course. 2020 sees the end, after 15 years, of Martin’s regular taught groups, as he moves towards an online teaching format. Take this chance to attend a group with moral support for your daily practice.
At January Life Lounge we’ll look at how to be kinder to ourselves and how this can actually help us to achieve more. Explore what’s really important for you and how to set yourself up for success, in whatever form that takes. Learn how to change habits that hold you back, to be more resilient when things get challenging, and how to build more of the things you really love into your daily life.
BWIS also offers training in Peer Support, another great way to help yourself by growing your emotional resilience (which works brilliantly in conjunction with Coaching). And if you’re in the mood for something different, consider Improvisation with our colleague Justine.

As we enter a new decade remember this: “The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide you’re not going to stay where you are.” - J.P. Morgan.

Following our December reflections, we look forward to the year ahead and explore how to make it the best it can be. Coach Group
This group restarts on a new day (3rd Mondays) in a new venue (Ipswich Quaker Meeting House). It is open to all coaches, with an especial welcome to graduates of our Small Steps course. Begins Mon 20th Jan. Arrive from 6.45 for a 7.00 start, finish by 9.30. Contact Steve with any questions.

Coaching Mastery
We look forward to beginning our Advanced Coaching course on Friday 14 Feb 2020. It is open to Small Steps graduates or those who can demonstrate equivalent coach training and experience. Contact Charlie.

Peer Support 
Advance notice for your diary of an introductory event open to all on Sun 1 March 10.00-12.30. Come and find out how a ‘free for life’ emotional support network can massively enrich your experience and underpin your personal growth. Contact Sue with questions.

E GYM - The Listening Circle
Drop into the E.Gym at Quay Place Ipswich at 6.30pm for some free Emotional keep-fit (and find out about PSN). Next event Weds 8 Jan or contact Sue. 

A ‘boot camp’ for those wanting to cultivate and maintain a mindfulness practice, with mutual support from fellow travellers. An 8-week course begins Mon Feb 3rd in Ipswich. With free Mindfulness Taster sessions at Quay Place.

A great way to explore and discover new aspects of yourself, while having fun. A six-week class for beginners to learn the basics of improv in relaxed and playful co-operation. Mondays at 6.30 in Woodbridge. Email Justine or call 07921 334293.

People often overestimate what they can achieve in 6 months, but underestimate what they can achieve in 10 years. A bit like the surprising power of compound interest. A small thing done regularly over a longer period can have a massive impact.
Look back and remember what life was like 10 years ago. Compare this with your life now. What are the biggest things that have changed for you?
Knowing the scale of change possible in 10 years, what would you wish your life to be like 10 years from now, filled with the fruits of another decade of growth?
What do you need to start doing now as you begin to become that future you? Then keep doing it.
