Committee Urges U.S. Support for Strong IDA18 Replenishment

In a letter to then U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Jacob J. Lew, the Committee advocated for a strong replenishment of the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s fund for the poorest. The letter urged the Department of Treasury to maintain the same level of funding made for IDA17 ($3.9 billion) in the IDA18 pledge, which they ultimately did. Next, we will turn our efforts to encourage Congress to fully fund all of the multilateral development banks in the upcoming budget. Read the letter

Views from the Members

In this section, individual members share their perspective on specific issues with the broader Committee membership. Views expressed below are from individual Members and do not reflect any viewpoint of the Bretton Woods Committee.

With a potential U.S. retrenchment from multilateral leadership and possible decreased financing for development in coming years, do you see further expansion of China’s role in development finance and economic development in regions such as Africa and Latin America? How might this impact the existing multilateral development landscape?
